Hot water tank issue

Hi everyone,

I have a 2011 Jayco Jayflight 28BHS and have an electronically controlled hot water tank. I just bought the trailer last fall and set it up on it's permanent park site. The trailer was winterized, so I opened the bypassed valves, connected the city water and then turned on the hot water tank switch (on LP). It ignites and heats up, however the light on the switch stays on and the hot water is hot at first then quickly just becomes warm. Now it stays warm just not very hot - all the while the light never turns off, contrary to the instructions that indicate it should turn off within 15 seconds of turning it on or turned off, wait 5 seconds and try again. I've done this but since it ignites I'm not sure what to think - that and the fact the water is not hot as it should be. Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers Pierre

Are you sure the one bypass valve is not still open causing the cold to mix with the hot. If you have 3 valves the center valve should be closed.

Hi Grumpy - thanks for the fast reply. The bypass valves seems confusing, where there are two on the bottom and one on the top - I opened all 3 as all 3 where in the closed position.

And there is still the light always on issue on the water heater switch.

Appreciate your help.

Pierre

It could be, depending on how it is wired up. It is probably just an indicator light letting you know your in LP mode, not an actual ignition light.

According to the manual, it is supposed to turn off but that might be inconsequential to the issue. Should all 3 valves be opened? I'm using the city water connection.

Cheers,

Pierre

No one valve should be closed, usually the center valve.

I'm attaching a diagram, although there is no flow through showing for the city water connection, as I'm not using the fresh water tank. The diagram does not really show my exact configuration, but it might help.

Thanks for your prompt replies - I'll try closing the different valves one at at time to eliminate the one that should remain closed. The bottom one is the hardest to turn, not a typical 1/4 turn but more like a dial turn with Off/On indications.

Stole this pic from an old post: Top and bottom should be open, line connecting the two closed.

That's so much easier to understand! I had done exactly that but was not getting hot water so I opened the middle valve - I might have been too fast on the draw. I'll try that! Thanks very much for taking the time to do this! Really appreciate it.
