Smoke Detector Battery
As we all start to unwinterize our campers, please replace the battery in your smoke detectors.
They may have been beeping all winter and are now dead......
Don't be dead like the battery in your smoke detectors......
Reply to keep this on the recent thread list so everyone gets the reminder

Good post, Jim. Hadn't even considered that yet but will replace this weekend. Thanks for the reminder.
Happy RVing,
Jeff

During the winterizing process, I remove all the batteries, leave the device like the smoke detector lid open, to remind me to install fresh batteries in the spring.

Thanks for the reminder, great idea to post it.
Just did this last night. Also for those of us with slightly older rigs (5+ years) remember to check the expiration dates on the CO detectors as well. I just bought TT, but it was expired in 2011. Went ahead and put a new one with a fresh battery in last night as well. Don't forget to inspect your fire extinguishers as well, both in your TT and your TV.
The smoke detector in my old TT was beeping throughout the winter. Even though I'm cleaning it out to sell as-is, I went ahead and put a fresh battery in for the next owner.

Bump....
Also, a few nights ago I thought it would be a good idea to do a fire drill with my 5 year old daughter to make sure she could use the emergency exit on the bottom bunk. I had her get into the top bunk where she normally sleeps and made sure could jump onto the bottom bunk and release the screen and the window herself. I stopped her before she jumped out the window . I'm glad I did this however as she had a hard time with the screen until she practiced a few times.
Anyhow, back to Jmooney's point of the thread...change your batteries!

Bump simply means that I bumped it back to the active /recent topic list so that it remains visible for others to see and read.

Last rig we full timed in we had a talking smoke detector. You record whatever message you want. We did fire drills as well by ringing the alarm. We did them at night with no lights to teach them to feel their way out. Fire alarm told them what to do over and over. 20 years offshore and trust me you know what to do in a fire in a hurry. One of the biggest reasons we got rid of the "RV fridge" was the remote possibility of fire.
