TT suddenly dragging brake

I have a 15 month old Eagle 330RSTS TT. Most of our trips are within a few hundred miles of home, including over labor day weekend. We were camping roughly 300 miles round trip from home. After pulling home and parking in the driveway to do laundry, unload, etc. all was a-ok. During the 2 mile trip from home to where we store the trailer, I noticed smoke and burnt brake smell coming from one of the wheels when I went to back into our space. My hand told me that 3 of the wheels were a normal operating temperature and the smoking one was really hot. I didn't notice any pull back from the trailer during normal driving and no chirping or hard lock up symptoms.

Any ideas where to start looking at this? If the issue were with the controller, breakaway or wiring from the front, I would assume all 4 wheels would have been dragging and hot. According to the manual that came with the trailer, these are the self adjusting brakes, so I haven't attempted to do any adjusting or maintenance to the brakes yet.

Could also be bad bearings.

Could be a bad or broken spring on the brakes but I would have a professional brake guy with electric trailer brake knowledge look it over and repack the bearings. If it was that hot bet the grease is gone and maybe the bearings and races are bad too.

I'm assuming if anything is broken or fried, that should be a warranty issue given the trailer is only 15 months old and less than 5000 miles on it. I was just hopeful to not let a dealer bs the reason it broke.

same thing happened to me.

self adjusting brakes adjust when stepping on the brakes while backing up. I figured that I hit the brakes so many times while backing it into my driveway that I over adjusted the brakes and 1 wheel got too tight and thus would lock up when stopping. backing down the adjustment fixed the problem and now I disconnect the TT plug when backing into my driveway. So far so good.

YMMV

It's usually a stuck brake caliper or broken retaining spring. Don't panic, get someone who knows electric brakes to fix it. Usually the whole brake assembly can be replaced for less than $100 in parts and its so simple that even I have done it.

If it's a warranty issue it may be more trouble than it's worth to fool with a claim.
