millions of bearings are run in trailers all over the US... every trailer built uses the cheapest they can find... and they are all made in china... the only ones that fail are the ones that aren't greased or kept up...

IF they failed in any great numbers there would be trailers on the side of the road all the time... they are not.. it is actually pretty rare considering the miles put on in a summer...

repacking bi annually and putting on new seals will keep your bearings rolling regardless of where they are made, easily going over 100k miles..

tires are something to worry about.. IMO... everyone has their thing though...

red tacky grease is better than yellow non tacky grease

All the timkens I bought for trailer axles were all us made in China made boxes. Look at the bearings and races for country of origin. Boxes are typically made in China.

I get mine from Amazon or Rockauto.

Definitely not true, I've had trailer China bearings fail with proper care. My 2009 5th wheel with Lippert China bearings failed. One then another. Then I replaced all with us timken and no more issues. Heard the same said about China tires. Lol

I love the hub caps with the grease holes in them. I install the bearings using a good synthetic hub oil like "Lucas" hub oil. Fill to just below the opening 1/8" to 1/4". The hubs will run cooler. You may think what are you saying here "run the bearings like the big trucks do" "yup" that is the way I do it on all my trailers.

Jmho and stop wasting your money
Cars and pickups use sealed bearings and have for a very long time. Nothing to repack. That's why wheel bearings in vehicles last so long.

On our daughters horse trailer she said left side bearings used to take more grease than right with horse on the left side. Now that she is married and they carry two horses both sides use the same amount. Equal weight is ONE of several factors to look at when one side is taking more than other.

From what I saw over 20 years in the automotive field is a lack of quality grease, or a failure of keeping it. Sure bearing failures happen, and I would definitely agree Timken is likely one of the superior manufacturers who is much less prone to material failure.
The installation technician who hand packs the bearing and runs it in by feel without over tightening it key when quality grease is used. Heat makes bearings subject to spalling. The #1 failure of the face hardened material.

We will see where they are made because I just ordered inner and outer bearings and races off amazon for my disc brake conversion mod. Some start arriving at the house on friday, saturday, monday and tuesday. Good thing I dont need them anytime soon.

Verdict is in. I got the last of my order today, part of it a day early. Today's delivery was the inner bearings and races and all have USA on them. Both boxes say the same Made in US w/US and imported content.
