2018 Greyhawk oil change
I was planning on doing these pretty routinely around 5k or 2xs per year.
I just looked in the manual and saw it says every 7500k. Was that recently updated from the recommended 5k in years past?

For our 2009 Greyhawk 31FS on the E450 chassis, Ford called for an oil change every 7,500 miles. I changed the oil once a year, usually in the beginning of spring. I used full Synthetic Mobil 1 and a Motorcraft oil filter.

Leaving old oil in the crankcase that has acid from combustion is not good for the engine. That's why the 6 months is more important than the miles. I doubt many will see 7500 miles in 6 months on a motorhome or even 5000 for that matter.
Even when I get my Jeep oil changed the dealer puts a sticker on the windshield that says oil changed needed in xxxx miles or a date which is 6 months from last oil change.

That's actually the manual but the online version. [emoji38]
I agree on the time vs miles. I use the same principal on my Corvette. Change the oil annually in the spring regardless of how many miles I put on her in the short driving season. way under 5000

To everybody that changes in the spring, does it sit all winter ? You are probably better off changing at the end on the season and store it with clean oil.

Full synthetic should be good for an annual change. I agree with the previous poster that changing in the fall, and storing with clean oil is better if that’s your use case.

Your signature says you don’t own a motorhome. Even if he used full synthetic he should still change it every 6 months not annually like you suggested.
Even during camping season motorhomes sit more than are driven. Your Ram Truck gets driven much differently than a motorhome. We don’t just drive them around everywhere. Trip then it sits...trip then it sits...trip then it sits. That’s hard on the oil.

Can't recall the exact reason, but a buddy of mine who has a landscaping business (runs trucks) said he believed the synthetic blend to be better for the gaskets versus the full synthetic. He tried full synthetic, ended up with leaks and so went to the blend. Not sure if its true, but even if you used regular oil and changed every 5K I'd say we're in good shape.

Forgot about the 6 month window. Just scheduled my oil change at my local private garage that has the nice big bays to accommodate bigger rigs. They use Chevron oil.

X2! I’m due also...this thread reminded me. 6 months this month. We have a trip to Fredericksburg Tx in the Hill Country next week for a week so will probably wait until we get back. I’ll do the generator then also. Cheap insurance.

My Ford dealer said basically the same thing. He highly recommend using semi synthetic or synthetic blend...said Motorcraft Oils can’t be beat. I get Motorcraft oil and filter at Walmart. Change it myself in less than you can drive it to a dealer. Easy and I know it’s done right!

I still have a few months before I change the oil for the first time in my E450. I'm assuming I have the right parts in my amazon cart to make the oil changes after the first one a breeze?

Onan manual says wait for 20 hours before the first change. I'm around 8 so I'll hang on for awhile longer.

When we owned the Greyhawk, we used it year 'round. It rarely say more than a few weeks without being used, well except when gas was $4.00/gallon. It didn't get used as much then.

My truck, not a mh , has a "normal" and "heavy" schedule for oil changes. Hauling a 5er or a mh body IMO would be on a "heavy" oil change schedule.
Mine gets changed at 5k intervals which works out to twice yearly. If I had a mh, I would use the 5k interval.

I installed a Fumoto last year. Makes oil changes very easy and clean. I save the containers the oil came in and drain old oil right back into them. I loosen up the oil filter and then hold up an old plastic coffee container around it as I remove it. No Mess.
Changing the oil is cheap and easy. I don't go over 5000 without a change. If we are going on a long trip I will change it sooner. I also change the ONAN oil at least 2x a year.

We had a Greyhawk and oil changes were easy!
Now have a Precept and not as easy. First need to elevate the front to get clearance and both the drain plug and filter are above the steering linkage so use a big funnel to catch the old so it does not go all over the place. Getting the new oil in is not easy as the tube is at the top of the compartment with no clearance to pour. Auto parts store sells a long tube that screws on the top of the Quart containers. Any other Precept owners that have any other suggestions would love to hear about them.
I change at end of season and use Motorcraft blend.

My mechanic said so even for my Tundra. I have also been told the Ford oil and filters are a great product............can't be beat!
