220 Big volt/ Big mistake

ladies and gentlemen I did a RV newbie bonehead mistake. I installed an electric plug at my home for the Rv and called my Jayco dealer on what plug and voltage do I need?? told me 220v and had a friend even warn me that wasnt correct. I went with my dealer recommendation and oh boy!!
blew up my microwave and appears my fridge only works on propane. I'm feel very fortunate thats all I damaged. Its a used 2019 30x. I'm gonna do some dealer chasing on this issue but in mean time trying to diagnose the fidge. Its a norwood and the ac plug is getting ac power and glass fuse on the circut board looks good. Any way of knowing if bad board or ac element?
Also if microwave worth repairing or get new. It a frigidaire model.leaning toward getting same model so bolts right in. I did have a surge protector on it but the 220v was probably asking alot. frustrated as hell that I let this happen and should done more research. I leaned on my Dealer knowing the correct answer. Had a licensed electrician do the install.

The only way to check the element would be with a meter. See if you have voltage where it plugs into the board. And yes the surge guard should have caught it.

Does your RV use 30amp or 50amp service? It’s also likely your converter is damaged as well.

I will be willing to bet the dealer put nothing in writing and the electrician had you sign the service order stating 220V.

I believe you will waste more time trying to pin responsibility on someone than it takes to repair the items. You might have a lot more blown than just the fridge and microwave. Anything that was plugged in at the time needs to be checked.

Why replace the microwave with the same model. Since it is cheaper to replace than repair get something better than fits the opening or an enlarged opening with minor mods.

Good luck.

What make and model of surge protector were you using. I'm surprised it allowed power to the RV all.

To test the frig heating elements disconnect the frig from power and test the elements for their resistance value. You'll have to check with the frig manufacturer on the normal resistance for the elements. I believe they should be around 50 ~ 60 ohms. Very high voltage would probably burn up the element, possible to an open circuit condition. Here is a video on how to test the heating elements.

That plug has 120 volts on one blade, Ground on another and Neutral on the 3rd blade...it’s not a 220vac plug.

Yeah, sounds like he's confusing it with an old style 240 volt clothes dryer plug...

Not the same...

Agreed with you and Stavman.

Someone put a 120V 30a Socket on a 220V line????????

Or did the electrician cut the 120a 30 plug off the RV and put a new one on???????

This is really hard to do.
You'd have to work hard to get that 30a RV into a 220V receptacle,

Agreed - multiple issues at play.

If your RV is 30 amp it does NOT use 230 volts. 30 amp RV 3wire plug is 120 volts. 50 amp 4 wire Plug is 230 volts. All RV's are the same. 30 or 50. That's it.

Right here! 30 amp 3 wire RV is 120 volts. 50 amp Rv is 240 volts. You can not plug a 30 amp RV power cord into a 30 amp 240 volt receptical. It will not fit. Someone had to put 240 volts on the shore power outlet. They would have had to put 240 volts and a neutral or 240 volts and a ground. 240 volts requires 4 wires. 30 amps is only 3. Hot, neutral and ground. 240 is 2 hots. neutral and ground.

Your gonna have to explain to us how you came about using 240 volts. Did you have an electrician wire a 30 amp shore power cord at home? You did NOT plug your RV into 240 volts at any campground. Your 30 amp Rv is 120 volts and will NOT plug into a properly wired outlet.
