A/C Tripping Surge Protecor

Hoping someone can help me out here.
Took our new to us 2016 31DS out for her maiden voyage last weekend and ran into this problem.
When we arrived at the provincial park, I hooked up the Hughes PWD30-EPO to the post which was 30A and all was well.
Over the course of the weekend I spent time trying out the various systems/items in order to get acquainted with them.
It wasn’t that hot here in Ontario on the weekend but on Saturday I tried turning on the AC to check it’s operation. I had no other appliances on at the time.
The unit came on for about a brief second and then shut off. I looked out at the surge protector and sure enough it was red and the error code read “overcurrent”. The 30A breaker on the post didn’t even trip so I guess the Hughes did it’s job
Of note, The microwave display disappeared too so all my AC appliances shut down as well.
I turned off the A/C and went out and reset the surge protector and tried it again. Same results.
Having limited electrical knowledge, I presume that my A/C is simply drawing too much amperage? If so, any ideas as where to start the troubleshooting?
I’m fairly handy but I just have no idea where to even start the troubleshooting process.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try it without the surge protector inline? I suspect the A/C could be drawing a lot of current when turning on and the surge protector doesn't like that. If the A/C works without the surge protector then you could try a different surge protector or a microair soft starter for the A/C (or even a less expensive supco a/c starter may work as well). ~CA

Hey Craig. That would’ve been a good idea. I don’t think to try that.
I’ll be camping again this coming weekend and will definitely give it a try in hopes of narrowing it down. Thanks a lot.
