Baggage door mod

I always hated that the storage doors open bottom to top. Pain in the ...to hold them while your trying to get something out. So today I attempted to flip one of my doors. Actually it wasn't too difficult once I broke the silicone seal around the trim. I wedged a flat blade chisel and tapped it with a hammer and it popped right out.

I noticed that other models come stock like this. Is there a reason that Jayco does this?

Anyways, I included a couple pics to show my work. Now to get the other 5 done.

Only reason not to flip 'em down might be for some people who forget to latch 'em tightly and start driving.

Whoa - no one I know.
Certainly not me!
Yes sir - no, not me - no way I'd forget to latch the door and have a nice trucker honk and wave on I-80.

Nope.
Not me.
Some one I know.

Very cool. I been annoyed with that issue myself. I kept thinking my 96 Jayco had those little latch thingy's that would hold it open. How could they go backwards? Did you have to remove a bunch of screws ? On the other hand, if they we're held upright, folks would be knocking them off with the slides.

Hi All, I followed the advise of another reader of this forum and installed baggage door latches, like I used to have on my fifth wheel. I like the idea of the hinges on the top for safety sake in case I forget to latch them properly. Check out my blog mod page, mod #3. The url is in the signature block at the bottom. If you like it let me know. Cheers.

That's a cool idea, especially since you have the slide above it and no where to put the hatch latches.

I put a couple of my baggage door latches on the slide. If I forget to close the baggage door prior to slide deployment, the latch just disconnects and the door closes. No damage to the latch, slide, or door.
