Battery Connections Question

Managed to confuse myself this year, our third year with the RV. Each winter I remove the batteries and reinstall in the spring. This year I seem to have lost control over which cable goes to which post.

Currently, I have one cable as positive (it supplies power to the leveling system) and four other cables that I'm not sure which is which. I thought the four cables all went to ground, but when connected that way the RV has no main power.

I got side-tracked on the latch relay, main power switch, and 12V breaker, but then came back to the idea that I'm simply missing a power connection (one or two of the four belongs on the positive side).

Can someone help me by peaking at their unit and telling me. Thank you..!

Hopefully someone will be able to help... maybe if you mentioned what RV you have it could speed up the process.

I have one cable for ground and three for the positive side. I always tie wrap the positive leads together so not to mix them up. You might need to check your fuse if you connected something that was ground to the positive side. Follow the one cable for the ground is your best bet.

Aot of folks use their cell phone camera to take a picture for reference for the battery cables...

If you have colors RED/BLACK pair usually the RED is hot and the BLACK is frame ground... Or if you have a BLACK/WHITE pair the BLACK is hot and WHITE is ground. ALL the other cables are most likely a POSITIVE 12VDc connection...

If that doesn't work out then you may have to just trace them out...

Take a picture when you get back to normal and keep it handy at the battery location is a plastic envelope etc...

Fixed the Issue Folks

Sorry for posting half the info. It is a 2016 Jayco Greyhawk MV 29. I had written a longer, detailed post and lost it somehow before uploading/posting here. The second post was the one you guys saw - in my mind the required info was there, but in reality... well, you know....

Anyways, about ten minutes after posting the question I realized I could try to read the resistance to ground for each unknown cable. That worked like a charm. The one valid negative terminal cable read about 2 ohms, so I figured that was the negative cable. The others all read at a high impedance so I thought they had to be positive side connections. Maybe my thinking was flawed, but it did work.

Use a meter

Hey RV There, I finally found my correct cable placements by using a meter set to resistance. The ones that belong on the negative side were reading nearly zero ohms and the ones that belonged on the positive side were reading a very high resistance or open (infinity). That worked for me.
