Battery disconnect relay wiring
I took out my house batteries today to see if I could modify the battery tray to accommodate 6v golf cart batteries (still a work in progress).
I noticed on the battery disconnect relay there was a yellow wire completely broken off and a red one that was barely hanging on due to corrosion.
Before I reconnect the wires, can anyone confirm that both the yellow and red wires connect to the slightly larger red wire (corroded yellow connector in the picture) coming from the relay? I know the red one does, and it doesn't look like there is anywhere else for the yellow one to go, but I'm not 100℅. It's a KIB LR9806 relay/solenoid.
I don't have a need to use the disconnect relay any time soon, but it would be nice to deal with it now while the batteries are out.
Thanks in advance!

What's the year and model of your rig?. I might be able to help but my 2015 Greyhawk is wired al little different then yours, according to the picture.

It's a 2008 Melbourne 29D. Sorry. I thought my signature would show that.

The same red wire is on that relay (in your pic it's on the top right). Problem is I don't know if I should reconnect the just red or the red and yellow. And if not the yellow, where does it go? The red and yellow wires may be model specific, though. Just thought someone else with a Melbourne around that year might be able to take a look at theirs for me.

If you disconnect switch inside has a light indicating it is on or off the yellow wire feeds it.

OK. That's good to know. I've never noticed a light inside at the switch. Guess the yellow wire has been disconnected since before we got it. I'm going to wire it in with the red one.
Thanks

Got both red and yellow connected together to the larger gauge red wire. Battery disconnect seems to be functioning properly. No indicator light that I can see, but the LP detector now does the whine/beep thing when you disconnect (like it did in my past RVs), so I'm thinking the yellow wire is related to the LP detector. I thought the LP detector was working before, but I don't remember the disconnect beep happening before I reconnected the yellow wire. I could be imagining things, tho. Has happened before.

I have a 2016 Jayco 31XL that when I push the momentary rocker switch to engage the battery disconnect solenoid you can hear it engage and lights work briefly but wont latch.
Any ideas?
Thanks

The relay is not latching and probably bad.

I believe the solenoid is working fine but it just won’t latch
So I’m looking for a latching relay mechanism but unable to find information
It does look like there are two fuses to protect the control circuit and may have to check those first
And what looks like a circuit board/relay that may be bad
Thanks

Yes it could be a fuse out that hold the relay.

12V Chassis.pdf <--- schematic
Left side solenoid has a 7.5 amp fuse and a 5 amp fuse. Not sure if this is the one. Look at your convertor and see if you have a 7.5 or 5 listed and pull it to see if it is good/bad.

I’ll check that first and then if not I’ll just buy a new one
Their less than $80 but not looking forward to doing it in such a tight place and in New England ☹️

These fuses are on the relay fortunately because the bedroom slide covers the panel ( who designs these things anyway) so is inaccessible unless I hand crank the slide out

I just checked my solenoid and both 7.5 and 5 are attached on the sides.

I know the solenoid is fine
Its the latching system I don't understand.
Usually there is a latching relay but I can't find any evidence of one.
KIB # LR9806JBIP
The BIP is a small PC board used to de-latch? the relay in case it won't but that's all I can find.
Maybe there is something mechanical in the solenoid that causes it to latch closed or open?
Anyone out there know?
Thanks

KIB Battery Disconnect Latching Relay For Jayco #LR9806J-BIP
The latching relay is an effective battery disconnect device. The LR9806J-BIP is a single-pulse latching relay. It only requires a short “pulse” of voltage to activate or deactivate the relay. Since the LR9806J-BIP does not require constant voltage, it is one less load on the battery
J-BIP version has a small circuit board attached to the positive terminal of the relay coil. The is a protection circuit that removes voltage from the coil after a time delay to protect the coil should the switch become stuck in the closed position, or the wiring become grounded.
Specifications:
Coil Rating 12VDC – 4.4
Non-Polarity Sensitive
Min. Activation Voltage 7VDC
Contact Type:
110 amps carry 6-36VDC
Latch Type: Mechanical Push On/Push Off Coil Activated
Replaces Obsolete Part LR9806J
What is a Latching Relay?
A latching relay is a two-position electrically-actuated switch. It is controlled by two momentary-acting switches or sensors, one that ‘sets’ the relay, and the other ‘resets’ the relay. The latching relay maintains its position after the actuating switch has been released, so it performs a basic memory function.
Even after the input voltage is interrupted, this KIB Battery Disconnect Latching Relay For Jayco #LR9806J-BIP maintains its set or reset condition until it receives the next inverting input. It is also called a keep relay. There are two types of mechanisms for maintaining the set and reset conditions: a magnetic holding type and a mechanical holding type.
