Cross over switch

My Jayco 37K has a Surge Power cross over switch. I'm currently plugged into house power with the minimum 115 volt power source from the garage. The cross over switch has a humming sound coming out of it. Does anyone know if this is normal or is this switch having a problem. The converter is charging and I have a 300 watt 12 volt heater in the plumbing bay. So display is showing 13.4 volts. I can also power a small 120 volt heater in the main living area. No problems with all that. I shut everything down and I still have the hum. Any advice would be appreciated.

Transfer switches have been known to hum, some worse than others and also not consistently. Have you tried unplugging and then plugging back in sometimes that helps.

Yup, unplugged, no hum. Shut down heaters while plugged back in and still had a hum. I guess its normal. Just haven't heard this before. Maybe my hearing is getting better? Thanks

Converters hum as well. Perhaps they are both humming in harmony?

No, I opened the cover over both and it was definitely the Cross over switch. Thanks

I thought transfer switches energized when the generator was on and was de-energized while on shore power. Sure it can be connected either way. Should not be buzzing if not energized.

There are 2 terminals in the box, or switches. One is labeled "shore power" and the other is labeled "Generator power". It only buzzes when on shore power. Thanks

Get the model number and go to the manufacturer's web site to get info on it.

The solenoids pull both ways...

The transfer switch uses a solenoid to connect the proper points for power from shore cord or generator. AC has a 60 Hz signal, so it can buzz if anything is failing or not working properly. If the solenoid can't be quieted or replaced, you could eliminate the transfer switch and go back to the older way to select a power source, a large 30 or 50 amp plug and outlet to select which source of power you are using.

No solenoid in this rig. It's has 2 switches, one is shore power direct to 1 switch, the other is direct from the generator to the 2nd switch.

Do you mean a SURGE GUARD transfer switch? Does it click when you plug in? There has to be a relay or solenoid to close the contacts.

I would contact Surge Guard since they have outstanding customer service and they may replace it if you're the original owner.

What is a Surge Power Cross over switch??? I love it when people make up words. Are you talking about a Transfer Switch? Or a Battery Disconnect Switch. Both of these will hum. They contain electric coil and contacts. Battery Disconnect can have power on it at all times. Transfer switch will not if not plugged into shore power.
