Fresh Water Leaking Into Black??

Newbie RV’er here... We have a 2018 Redhawk. Filled fresh water two days ago. This morning our water pump started running continuously, even when water is not turned on. We turned off the pump and cleaned the filter, but that didn’t help. The readings say the fresh tank is almost empty and the black is 2/3 full. The toilet does not appear to be leaking, but could the fresh be leaking into the black tank somewhere we can’t see? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If the black tank flusher/washer is connected it could be putting the water into the black tank, nothing but toilet connects to black tank normally

Black tank flush is a completely separate line. It has no connection to the pump or the fresh water system.

As others have said, there is only ONE place fresh water can make it into the black tank, the nozzle in the top of the bowl flush. If that isn't leaking continually into the toilet, there's no other way fresh can get into the black tank (unless gremlins are sneaking in and using your toilet. ).

Your pump running can be many other issues. A leaking water line, low point drains dripping, dripping faucet, outdoor shower not completely turned off. Need to do some detective work.

Another thing, the indicator lights for tank levels are VERY inaccurate, so don't always assume they are correct.

Lastly, did you put a "Y" splitter on your water line and have it connected to the black tank flush fitting? If so, that could be leaking into the tank.

Maybe you have multiple separate issues going on. . . .

Any RV black tank could and probably does give false readings. Stuff gets stuck to the sensors to put it nicely.

Jayco fresh tank overflow design is stupid (to use a technical term). Mine will dump 1/3 to 2/3 of the water on ground through the overflow. They apparently can fix this. But, many people have reported "siphoning" even though it doesn't really seem like it is siphoning. Was the ground wet under your RV?

I believe the pump would continue to run if it cannot pressure the lines. ie the fresh tank is empty. Filling the tank would prove this, if it shuts off.

Common industry wide problem, not just JAYCO.

Thank you everyone!

We determined that, #1-the pump was running continuously because we were out of fresh water (guy who helped us fill inadvertently only filled us about 1/3) and #2-yes, our black tank sensor is not working (showing 2/3 full even after we dump). Thank you for all the comments and suggestions. Very helpful!! We have learned a great deal.

Marty I feel your pain. Nothing works as advertised and you will have some growing pains. The tank monitors will drive you crazy, especially the black tank. The only chance that you have to get an accurate check is to use calgon or arm and hammer washing soda (it is much cheaper) to keep the black tank walls slick. I just stick my head under the coach to see the actual fresh tank level rather than relying on the sensors, especially if your rig is not set up level. Enjoy your rig and keep learning from the veterans here to minimize your mistakes.

The good news is....nothing is broken. You are just experiencing what all of us do even in new RV's. I used the Calgon addition to my black tank and was surprised at how well it cleaned the sensors.

They did not always work right after sloshing around (there is always something to get in theway) but they worked better than ever.

Another hint....You can point a flashlight down the toilet hole and get an idea of where your black level is. Keep in mind to look at it when empty first as it will amaze you how shallow the tanks are....you will think it is almost full when you look in only to realize it is really empty.
