Kwikee step linkage

Loud clunking going on with my quickie steps. Found linkage bolt not looking well. Don’t have time to get it serviced. Any ideas how to repair this? It seems pretty jammed in there so I might have to cut it off and then replace it with something.

The "pin" should be held in with a cotter key. Apparently the "key" either came out or wasn't ever put in. These pins bind up very tight when under the pressure of the motor. I got mine out by banging a set of vise grips with a hammer.

After I got it apart I found the simple method. Disconnect the power to your step motor, pull the three bolts that remove the motor, and the pin will fall out. You put it in with the new cotter key and reinstall the motor ensuring that the arm/step are in the correct relationship. It does not have to be perfect as the motor stops based on tension when it hits the stops.

Go to the Lippert website and you will find (hopefully....mine is a different style than yours as I have the semi-circular arm) the parts list/images/troubleshooting guides that will show you how to align the motor and reinstall.

Thanks.

I replaced with 1/4 clevis pin. It took grabbing the arm that attaches to the motor with vice grip and twisting it to get the holes to align just enough to hammer it in.

Took 4 hands and 20 minutes of cussin' and bangin' but we got'r done!

Who needs finesse when a bigger hammer gets the job done. Glad you got it fixed.

Bent bracket-

My pin broke and it appears the bracket is a bit bent. I can’t get the pin to line up. If I go from one direction it is a bit better but still not enough. Guess I’ll try removing the motor method. What looked like an easy fix…what a pain in the rear end.
