Sofa storage space

While my Greyhawk was in for repair someone there ripped the decorative cover off that covers the opening under the jack-knife sofa. They were probably trying to open it for a short nap. Anyhow, the now exposed space can easily hold a lot, big plastic boxes or a huge drawer. Any suggestions how to easily access and utilize this new found space but keep it looking nice?

Our J-Sofa has a black skirt over the wood panel. The skirt appears to be mounted between the cushions and the steel frame. It looks good (don’t really like the back fabric, but that is a different issue). I remove the wood panel and we store our shoes under there.

Is the cover gone, or only temporarily removed during service?

We still have the cover and use the space for bulky items like extra paper towels, cases of drinks, etc. What I learned here on the forum is if you partially open the sofa, so that its in a "V" shape, the bottom cover swings open to provide access to the space.

I used industrial strength Velcro on the edge of the side ends on both the cover and the sofa. Makes for easy removal and installation.

The Velcro on the original cover is what I'll try. Opening to a V can be easily done, but limits access. Thanks.

After my cover came off "by accident" i trimmed a bit off the bottom of the panel so it doesn't drag on the carpet when deploying or retracting the slide.
Makes the cover easier to remove and replace - less hassle of alignment.
