It wouldn't matter much. The heat's generated at the cast drums, from the bearings and while braking. The bearing hub's where you want to measure the temperature at. We have a contactless laser thermometer in the door of the truck, and I use it whenever we stop for some reason.

i drive 75-80 in my Sedan on most freeways. That seems to be right where you keep up with traffic.. When i'm towing my 5th Wheel, i park in the slow lane at 60-65 and just relax, either with my favorite radio talk show or some nice high definition music.

I too use the thermometer on my hubs when we stop for breaks or chow. They usually run around 120 and all 4 are within 4 or 5 degrees of one another.

Hi Folk, thanks for the reply.
Made the to Tempe from the Philly area on Dec 23.....took the route from Pa TP down through Virginia, Tenn, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico then Arizona.
Took that route over the northern route with hopes of better temp and weather. Didn't want to drop down to rt 10 in Louisiana the ride 10 into Arizona because that would have added a lot of time.....Wife wants to get there on the 23rd.
The eastern states I towed at 62'ish as the traffic with the trucks keeping my speed down...not fighting them. Things began to open up when we got through Tenn and into Arkansas as there was much less traffic and I could tow at 65 without jockeying for passing position. As we moved west the traffic opened up. The traffic and speed eventually allowed me to tow between 65 and 70. What kept me below or at 65 for the most part was traffic.
With the E450 and my Jayco 31 DS towing my 2019 Forde Edge I averaged about 6.45 Mpg...somewhat mountainous in eastern states.
Entered into Texas where speed limits increased and I towed around 72-73 MPH the gas milage dropped down to an average 5.69 MPG.
I'll have to check the internet for the optimal torque RPM for a E450...
Then it happened....HOLD....arrived in Tempe with a cough and 102 Deg temp. Was taken to an urgent care and the low oxygen levels placed me in the hospital....Covid.
Wife also hd Covid but no symptoms...she quarantined in the RV.
Have no idea where it came from.
Well I got out after a week (Dec 31, late evening)....I'm now an expert on cooking, rebuilding Houses, monsters of the deep, the unexplained and animals of the desert.
I was never in any serious jeopardy, also was fighting pneumonia. Now I have to quarantine in the RV for a while. Feeling much, much better.
Once again, thanks for the replies,
Karl

Hope you get better soon.
As I mentioned in the Covid thread, we are at 98% capacity in many hospitals and some are over 100% and sending ambulances to other hospitals with availability. It now is really no joke about Covid not being any worse that the Flu, at least here. We are second only to California for infection rate and this spike is from the Thanksgiving foolishness that some could not resist large groups. The Christmas spike is yet to come. Our infection rate to testing is 27%. It was 4% not many months ago.

Holly crap Karl!, glad you guys are ok! This is something that’s been on my mind. I would like to know if there is any special procedures for decontaminating your RV?
We’re going to make the same trek out to Peoria AZ from NE PA. My dad just passed away after a year long illness and I have to go out and pick up some of his affects. Although, now because of Covid, we may wait and make the trek from South Florida instead of northeast Pennsylvania. I’ll probably take Rt 10, looks like the most direct route from South FL.
Happy new year. Be well

My strong suggestion is DON'T come here. It is serious enough here that if you do get Covid and have a need for hospitalization there may be no place for you to go and Peoria being right next to Sun City, Sun City West and other retirement communities is going to see more hospitalizations from we elderly people.

Thanks, we are not going now, that is why we will leave from Fl. We are up north for the holidays hunkered down. When my dad passed 2 weeks ago we decided not to go and wait till everything gets better in the future. We were unable to see him because of covid!

As a covid thought to share, and I will look at the covid thread as I haven't seen it yet. We know that some people have covid with mild to no symptoms, yet others have major issues leading all the way to death. I ask myself why some people have no symptoms and while I don't know (I am not a Doctor by any means) if it is related to their DNA differences or perhaps their bodies nutritional status. Knowing we can't change who we are (our DNA), I highly encourage everyone to do everything possible to have a stronger immune system, stay active (consider exercising more), eat healthy, consider multi-vitamins, in particular those with zinc, vitamin c, vitamin d, and don't do anything that could lower the body's ability to protect itself or put you in a position with many others who could be infected. While doing these things, still yet there are no guarantees that any of this will help, however I believe that these things certainly could help, and not a bad way to live life anyway. Just my thoughts, and my heart certainly goes out to everyone regarding this pandemic that has been affected. ~CA

I never thought of that. This is from Etrailer
Will aluminum rims run any cooler than steel rims? 12 inch in mind...

Expert Reply:
Aluminum does do a much better job at dissipating heat than steel, so to answer your question an aluminum wheel would run cooler than a steel one.

I wouldn't worry...just check your temperature as well as oxygen level with an oximeter that slips over your finger.
With me I seemed to have lost a lot of my appetite. I could smell and taste just fine... Mucus Cough began then mucous stopped and it turned into a hard dry cough. When we got to Tempe I discovered temp went to 102 and oxygen level went below 87.
I was doing everything right....wore the mask that didn't work, distanced in stores...I say you gotta live...at least with the RV it's yours and you know where you've been rather than who slept in your bed last night. As you know you can make all of your meals in the RV with no restaurants required.
We did the I-10 cross country tour once after visiting family in Boca and St. Cloud.....drove up Fla then hung a left onto 10.

You really do not know what you will get with this virus. It is a roll of the dice. My youngest daughter, her husband, who are both law enforcement are just getting over it. His symptoms were mild but when went back to work he lasted a half a day and came home totally worn out. He is a body builder. My daughter is still home and while basically over it, some issues remain and she has not gone back to work. Their son, my grandson, at 16 had a stuffy nose and a mild fever and is over it. Our granddaughter, in the same house did not get it.
I see major, overweight people, in serious trouble with this and the truth is it seems to hit those who are not in good health, do not exercise, and have done little in their daily lives to be more healthy. But then there is the exception that did everything right and died.
Both my wife and I are not over weight, exercise daily but I am not going to push it and go back to the gym, or to the grocery store/Costco just to test the issue.

The wife and me covered 20 states out west in Sep - OCT, 7000+ miles and hit most of the national parks. We did the mask and social distancing thing and came thru unscathed. A friend of ours, a MD, said he noticed that folks that had been immunized for the flu and had caught the virus seemed to, for the most part, experience milder symptoms. He also said that the majority that had contracted the virus were vitamin D deficient. Later this month we'll be heading down to Florida providing we aren't snowed in! Stay safe everyone!

I agree, and to add clarity to my thought, I don't believe staying as healthy as possible actually decreases your risk from getting covid, but I do believe it decreases your risks of having serious complications if you do get covid.
I have also read that covid affects men much harder than it affects women although I am not clearly understanding why that is. In any case, I don't plan to start working out at the gym or anything like that, and at the same time I don't plan to live a sedentary lifestyle indoors for hours on end each day. For me, no crowds, more walking outside and staying active as I can, along with eating healthy foods (no junk food), taking vitamins. Stay Safe as well, ~CA

I agree that we should just follow the rules and be safe. We should not spread rumors on here. Not what our friends say or our friends doctors, this is all heresay not facts
