Visiting Joshua Tree NP

Any suggestions for finding a good campsite at Joshua Tree National Park?
We will be there next week, for three nights.
As for filling up our water tanks, I am told that that can be done as we enter the park.......Is that the case??..........
Thanks.............

How big is your RV? Even the largest sites in JT are small. We can't fit in anything in there with ours so we boondock outside. That's what we did at the end of Jan. Are you entering from the top or the bottom?

I think Jumbo Rocks has the largest sites but anything much over 30' will be on a site where the campground road widens. Look at Google Maps sat view for the campground and you'll see what I mean.

If you will be entering the park from I-10, you will see many rigs boondocking off the service roads before the park entrance. Too close to the freeway for my tastes, but free is free. It's been 75ish here now (30 miles to the entrance), with the higher park elevation in the 60s.

You should be okay getting into some of the sites. Not sure if you've been before but it's a long haul from the south gate to the upper campgrounds & the trees. The Cottonwood CG at the south side should fit you, dump/water there too.

We couldn't hear I10 from where we were boondocking by the aquaduct. If we could have fit in we'd have been in the park but we're setup for dry camp anyway.

We were at JT last month. Cottonwood is the only place to go. The others are too crowded and the sites are too small. That's if you can find an empty one.

No sites were open in the park when we arrived. Very busy season. Not only that, the vast majority of campsites are big enough only for a car.
We ended up at a privately owned RV park, Joshua Tree Lake RV Park, I think it was called. Clean and spacious.
It's 5 miles north of Hwy. 62, about midway between Twenty Nine Palms and Yucca Valley. Access to the national park is minutes away.
