woosh, woosh, woosh

Coming from driver's side front wheel. Frequency increases with speed. 40,000 miles. Guesses??? Bearings???

I lifted the front wheels up and spun the wheel. My initial gut feel was brake, not bearing. Out of round rotor???

I've got a non-contact thermometer. I'm thinking of driving a bit and checking temperatures. Or would that be a waste of time in trying to figure out what's the cause?

Ugh - no good places close by that I'd trust to do front end work on this thing.

I have seen where a bad belt in the tire can cause this. When watching the tread while spinning the tire, sometime you can see a ripple where the tread is slightly not tracking with the majority of the tread. If you find even a small ripple, then it is likely the tire causing the issue. Is this one of your new tires? ~CA

You test wheel bearings for play by raising wheel off pavement: grab at 12:00 and 6:00 and try to rock. If loose, you'll know it. Check tie rods by grabbing a 9:00 and 3:00 and rock. Again, if loose you'll know right away.

Can't say I've heard a woosh, woosh bearing, but that doesn't mean it can't be.

No, new-ish (2 years old) Goodyear Wranglers but not the new-new rears.

Will do the grab and yank test!
Thank you!

Is that a pad wear sensor?
New to me.

Last time I did brakes on my car, it was a 1980 Toyota Corolla.

Yeah..most newer pads have built-in wear sensors which is nothing more than a strip of metal that rubs the rotor when the pads wear down. Keeps you from boogering up your rotors. The woosh woosh could be the sensor hitting the warped rotor.

generally the sensor will squeal when it touches the rotor.

Ok - the squeak and squeal I'm familiar with. I'll pull the wheel off soon and take a closer look around, Check the pads.

Thank you!
