2016 Eagle HT 28.5 RSTS Bathroom Vent

I discovered water on my bathroom floor. I said to myself, you idiot you left the vent open. After taking the vent shroud down I had more water than expected. I removed the fan assembly and plastic pieces fell from the top/outside vent cover. It's all most like the plastic turned brittle from to much heat and or sun. I called my Jayco dealer and he said that Jayco has had some issues with the vent assembly. So for all of you with a 2016 or newer Eagle HT you might check your bathroom vent for cracking.

Yup the bathroom vent cracking is a common feature of the POS EOM fans.

I too had the same problem. Covered under warranty. No UV stabilizer in the plastic. Jayco knows all about this issue. Upgraded to a fantastic fan!

Has Jayco or the OEM addressed this with a different part or anything? I checked mine out on my '17 and so far so good, but thinking of ordering a new fan to be proactive.

One would hope. I'm also curious if my 2017 built on March 10th would be prone to the issue.

That's a good idea. A new fan assy. cost about $85.00 plus my leaking vent cover allowed water to run down and mess up the passenger side reading lamp on our bed. Now the light needs replaced, so this isn't just a one thing replacement item.

Had mine replaced. Jayco said the old ones were not UV treated. New one is fine now.

Another option if not upgrading to a FantasticFan is to install a MaxxAir cover. I've put one on each of the units we've owned and am a solid fan (pun intended).

2016 Jayco 28.5 RSTS Bathroom Exhaust Vent cracking

Here's what's decided to do. I live 160 miles from the nearest Jayco Dealer. I'd have to drop it off then return after the warranty work was completed. That's 640 miles total plus fuel. I've decided to order a new exhaust fan assembly that is compatible with the Camco secondary cover since a secondary cover won't fit the OEM vent. This way I'm doubling my protection over the exhaust vent. I'm saving time and fuel cost. They say time is money, but I'm a guy and I love tinkering with things like this, plus it keeps me out of trouble with wife since I'm working on her camper. LoL
Have a great day fellow Jayco owners. Hope this helps someone!!
Chris

Was there an approximate built date after which the newer fans were installed?

I replaced mine with a Maxxair vent fan.

I realize that I could have gotten mine replaced under warranty, but I didn't want the same junk back, even if it was an improved version of the same junk. I also expected that with gas to get my camper to the dealer and higher cost of for a maxxair fan from the dealer, I was better ahead to do it myself.

It was an easy project. So easy, that I bought a second one to replace the fixed vent in the bedroom.

Good idea but any kind of aftermarket cover like a Maxxair or Camco won't fit the OEM exhaust/fan. You'll have to change to hole unit out like I'm doing.
Good luck in your decision.

Same problem on my 16 Eagle, called the vent fan factory they agreed for the dealer to install previous model bath vent fan. What nice it has foreword and reverse pulls mega air.. Bought a max air 2 vent cover on e bay.Easy install no rain leaks can leave vent open while traveling. Happy Trails

The dealer replaced my fan on my '16 yesterday because I found a little water inside after pulling in the rain with it open. I can't recall the phraseology but the paperwork noted it was a different design. We'll see how it does. I wish I'd taken a pic of the old one so I could compare the two.

Thanks. So, the new one I have and old one look identical. Hopefully this one is at least of a better batch. The only visible difference is the tint. This one seems to have a lighter tint on the outside.
