5 Star Handling Package?
While I definitely appreciate that Jayco is not using Chinabomb tires on their North Point and higher spec 5ers, I still don't get the spec mismatch.
For example, on a 377 RLBH, the 5 Star Handling package includes Dexter 7000 lbs axles and Goodyear Endurance tires rated at 3,640 lbs each.
Total capacity of 14k lbs via axle, and 14,560 lbs via tire.
Dry weight of the 377 is 13,885 lbs.
And GVWR is 16,750 lbs, 2,750 more than what the axles are rated for and 2,190 more than the tires.
How can the GVWR really be that high when it surpasses the tire and axles specs so much?
Again, I know that with other manufacturers and lower models from Jayco the mismatch gets even worse, but I guess I am curious just how "exposed" the 377 is at full GVWR with these axles and tires?
Any reported failures?

I think what you’re missing is that your tow vehicle takes on about 3000# in this equation.

Because some of the weight goes on the pin.

That said, I would prefer to see more margin in the axles and tires. Maybe 8K or 9K axles with appropriate tires. I’d be willing to pay more for the margin.

But if they did this, they would have to report a larger GVWR. It is rated by the largest weight the vehicle can safely handle; if you increase the capability, you increase the rating. Maybe just knock a few hundred pounds off the GVWR in your mind (reduce your CCC) and you'll have the safety margin you are looking for.

I’m certainly not an expert in these matters, but can’t they do the same thing the automakers do? For instance, you can purchase an F350 with GVWR of 10K, but there is no difference in the build from the 11.5K package.

You might want to consider upgrading the suspension to the MorRyde 8K IS suspension. I am thinking about this for my new Pinnacle

I'm considering doing the IS if I keep the trailer after this winter. When I last scaled mine I had 11,620 on the axles. They are 7k each with G tires. This was at the end of 2 weeks boondocking so the fresh was near empty and the blk/gray were near to full which moves weight towards the pin.

The reason no manufacturer wants to jump up to 8k and larger axles is the increased cost and the frame has to change. 8k axles require a narrower frame. The tires cost more than double of a 10 ply tire, which can handle the 7k axles.

I understand the additional cost adder, as I stated, I’d be willing to take on that cost.
Why would an 8K or greater axle require a narrower frame? DRV’s are dual axle, 101” wide, with up to 24K GVWR on 17.5” GY H’s.

8k and larger axles have larger brakes. The distance on the hubface can be the same but usually lose 2" on hub clearance. Also, to get a true 4,000# weight capacity on a wheel on an 8k you need to step up to 14 ply or larger tires

No, it cannot be done. I sell dual tandem trailers, they are built on a 46" frame and hubface of 62". An 95" hubface axle comes out at 102" with tires. Most campers use an 89" HF/74"SH axle or smaller.

You’re welcome to research how DRV does it. Believe it’s all independent
