Awning

I bought a used 2012 Jayco Eagle 321 RLTS 5th wheel this past May. We have been enjoying it this summer. Last week When I went to bring in the awning it wouldn't retract. It would still go out. I had to extend it to the point it was starting to roll up the other way before it would retract. It was like a dead spot on the motor. Any help would be appreciated. I'll look for the manufacturer name as that might be helpful.

It's probably a Carefree of Colorado awning as that's whats on our '12 Eagle. Check the rocker switch first. If that's ok it may be the motor. Not cheap to replace but cheaper than a new awning assembly.

Speaking of switches etc, If you ever need to order a replacement switch for your RV or all the way down to your blow dryer, Just Google the part number and you can almost certainly find that switch for a mere fraction of the price. I have done this many many times and saved myself and friends quite a bit of money!

Thanks for the suggestion. I have done that also. Got one not too long ago for the water heater.

The switch checks out fine. If I run the awning all the way out it does not want to return till I run it further till it starts to wind up the other way. It also goes out fine but has started to come in very slow. Should be the same motor I would think, just reversing it. We are. Leaving on a trip in the morning. I'm afraid to use it now. May not get it bsck in at dome point.

I found where the wire going out to the awning splices inside the unit. I ran some heavier wire from that point out the door to the awning and it performed flawlessly which tells me the wire they used is not heavy enough. I have not replaced it yet. Probably will come spring. I have kept the roll of heavier wire with me in case I needed it to roll the awning up when we are out with the RV.

I forgot to mention with the heavier wire it rolled up faster than it ever has.
