Question Disc brake conversion

I'm starting a drum to hydraulic disc brake conversion. It appears I may need to dismantle much of my 2016 North Point in order to find where the tow vehicle electric cable terminates in the trailer. Does anyone have any hints?

Should be a junction box up in the pin box area, normally the umbilical is only about 5 feet long or so.

jimgram,

Welcome to JOF

I can't address your junction box question...., but when you start your project feel free to take progress pics and post them (start new thread) in the "Jayco Mods" sub-forum as you make the conversion to disc brakes..., also add any tips.

I'm sure many folks with FW's, TT's etc., would find a brake system conversion 'thread' an interesting subject to follow.

I'm very interested to see your project as it progresses. I've been debating with myself when I would finally pony up the money and do the conversion myself. I know Klassic would also be very interested in seeing your conversion and the results.

As for the junction box, look under the light that is next to the pin box. You have to remove the light to expose the wiring for the cord.

Might as well do the MORryde independent suspension as well. Get the best of the best all in one shot. I always said if I had way deeper pockets I'd do the disc brakes and independent suspension from the get go.

I know, I know!!!!
Its under the load light
Unscrew the light...there is a 1 1/2" hole. The wires are up there.

If you want to follow them from that point to the wheels....good luck. I can't find how they get there.
If you want to pull a new wire from the 7way at the pin box into the battery compartment area for your actuator, I can be of help there too.

I've spent a long time with my poor braking system.
Can you say why you are doing this upgrade?
I need some more ammo for my dealer to hit Jayco/Lippert with. They are still talking.

Boy, no truer words spoken there. Our first RV was a used HitchHiker II/LS that was converted to the MorRyde independent suspension and disc brakes by its owner. That trailer towed like an absolute dream and the brakes........oh man the brakes!

Go on YouTube........there are a bunch of videos on installing disc brakes on travel trailers & 5th wheels.

I am going to install them someday.......when I can afford it.

If I had klassics money.........would already have them. LOL

Count me in as to wanting to upgrade my brakes! Hell, maybe we could all get together with our trailers in a giant wagon train circle and do a mass install! And Magnolia Tom can run us through all those upgrades he's done on his 377 that has everybody foaming at the mouth!

This new truck has pretty much set klassic back
That's why I'm hoping the dealer comes up with a new set of working axels for free.
There's too many of us here now with questionable braking performance.
You all need to get back to your dealer so Jayco can hear that something is amiss.

Thanks to all for the advice. A forum moderator suggested that I start a thread on the 'MOD' sub-forum. When I get that done I'll let you know. I've been busy opening every cavity I can find and removing most of the rear underbelly covering. I have the Hydrastar HBA-16 hydraulic brake actuator and have decided to mount it in the galley island under the sink. This puts it directly over the axles so a short brake line connection. Also, wiring may be easier. Also, I want it somewhere where I won't accidentally throw a lawn chair on it. The HBA requires an independent wire from the breakaway switch. Really bad news - I thought I had it made but now I need to find where the existing line from the breakaway switch is connected directly to the blue brake wire from the vehicle connector. I'm hoping the suggestions about the cable termination being accessible thru the work light opening pan out. Otherwise, I may need to go in from the upper bedroom closet floor. This could get bad. I'll post some pics later

Why not mount the actuator in the storage compartment near the batteries?

That's what I am going to do someday. The wiring you need is also near there.
