Eagle HT Separation Issue Update

Here is an update on my research on the Eagle HT separation issue:

There are many who are experiencing the separation issue, myself included. Here are some of the links for our Jayco Owners Forum.
Links from Jayco Owners Forum:

Additionally, here is a link from the RV Show which airs live every Wednesday at 7 PM CT on You Tube. This particular Video from The RV Show USA on You Tube on 9/17/18 with Alan Warren (The RV Guy) 855-296-7469 featured RV Attorney Rick Dalton from Louisiana with Ken and Alicia from New England. The show is titled, “New Jayco Fifth Wheel is Falling Apart”. Ken and Alicia have a new Eagle HT with the same separation issue:

Moderator Edit: Video removed for over posting. Links fixed.

Our dealer is in process of requesting authorization from Jayco to return our 2018 Eagle HT 30.5 MBOK to the factory for repairs.

Please continue to post your specific scenario if you are dealing with this so we can build the case for having this issue resolved in a quality and acceptable manner.

I don't know why the links don't work as each link would answer your question with pictures. My dealer feels it is a frame shift. I have had my front bedroom door and the bed itself separate from the wall. The most reported issue has been the gradual separation at the front of the unit visible where the curve above the front levelers. I tried to paste a picture, but could not. Maybe someone else can successfully post a picture. The good news is that Jayco is taking care of my unit and all things related to the frame issue. My dealer and Jayco have been great to work with.

Can anyone provide an update on the most effective fix for this separation issue?

Best fasteners to use, etc?

Eagle HT Separation Issue Update

I replaced all the lower trim fasteners with these from HD today:

I used a #21 drill for a pilot hole though the two thicknesses of metal I drilled .

I then trimmed the decals 1/8” from the corner trim, cleaned the surface and resealed with clear silicon.

Hopefully the issue is now dealt with and will not resurface again.

Thanks to those that posted their insights and fixes.

Just checked if the longer screw fix worked after a 100 mile trip and it did resolve the issue. No evidence of relative movement and the sealant is still intact.

Mine kept pulling out so I bought 1 size larger screw and alot of them. I doubled the amout of screws under the rubber trim and gluded them all in during instalation. 1 year and 5000 miles later still hasnt moved. If it ever does I am getting the long ones and running them into the aluminum frame. Bad design idea.....

Our 2018 29.5 BHOK is currently at the dealer with the same issue, waiting on their response.

I took my 2018 MBOK to the dealer today for this issue. Glad I took it on prior to my trip next week - it’s separated more during the 5 mile trip to the dealer. Dealer has a Pinnacle in last week with the same issue.

Got my unit back today. Looks good as new. Dealer installed longer screws to anchor the front walls and resealed all moulding. I'm pretty sure it was like this from the factory but I didn't know what to look for until it really started sagging.

Thanks a ton for posting this compilation of previous posts. Our 2019 MBOK has this problem on the left side. Pointed it out to the dealer when it was in for service and I think they just resealed it because when I got home it was drooping again. There is complete separation of the trim and sidewall overlap. I'll schedule another visit for later in the Fall. For now I just put duct tape over the opening. Very annoying.

I noticed this issue on our 2017 Eagle HT 27.5RKDS last year after a 1000 mile trip. After getting home, I resealed the trim and it stayed put for several more camping trips. Just this week, I decided to take a closer look. I removed the rubber trim to check the screws. There were 22 screws total most of which were striped out. I removed all the screws (they were #8 1-1/2" long). I did a little investigating and found that the screws were only going into 1/2" plywood.

Thinking that there is enough flex in this area that adding the next size/length screw would just be a band-aid, I decided to explore a little deeper. Using a 1/8" drill bit (about 8" long) I drilled straight up through one of the screws holes and discovered what I believe to be aluminum box tubing.

So, I drilled all of the existing screw holes, except the ones nearest the side marker light, 3-1/2" deep and installed 3-1/2" #10 coated sheet metal screws. Haven't pulled the FW anywhere yet but I suspect the problem is resolved using these long screws.

Well...after one trip the moulding has "sagged" again. Dealer is ordering new moulding...

sag

Our 28.5 RSTS sags on the drivers side. I tightened the screws until the caulk oozed out of the bottom of the molding. It still sags, about a quarter inch. We're taking it to Jayco for something else in Feb. and they will check it out.
Sorry- can't figure out how to add photos.

Eagle HT Separation Issue Update

To do it right, the longer screw needs to go through the wood and two thicknesses of aluminum. As stated by Triplebvalp, that is over 3 inches deep.

Some dealers may not of figured that out yet.

The power converter failed on our MBOK, so it's back at the dealer for repair and they looked at the drooping moulding again. They said there's too much flex in that area so they are contacting Jayco to see what they recommend. Stay tuned.

We returned to the dealer we bought from for some other work and the service guy noticed we were already starting to separate. He explained that they see it alot and went ahead and fixed it while we were getting other work done. The fix was similar to, if not exactly, what EOW described up above.
