Front cap

My front cap appears to be fading and I tried waxing it which seemed to help a little. While doing that I noticed is spawling or whatever you would like to call it. Calling the dealer tomorrow as the warranty expires in July. Attached a pic, not the best pic though. Anyone’s done this?

Its discussed all the time. Run down a few pages and then do a search. Plenty of info on this topic. Mine was bought used so I dont have a warranty to fall back on. I read up and this comes highly recommended.

I have used it once and the fading is currently gone. I am sure it will come back but I dont mind buffing the cap. Once it gets to be too much I will have mine repainted the right way.

3M makes excellent products........if I had that problem I would certainly give it a try.

The first thing you want to do is take a bunch of pictures of the oxidation on the cap. Send copies of those pictures to service@jayco.com with your VIN and a letter explaining how the oxidation is spreading. They will respond with instructions as to what you need to do. Jayco is not the only mfr that is encountering this issue.

I had mine done in 2013 just before the warranty expired. Don't depend on the dealer to do this for you. The main intent of the email with pictures directly to Jayco is so they have a notification prior to the warranty expiration date. There will be no problems if the dealer does not contact them in time.

As the service center where I had our cap done said, once the oxidation starts the only way to stop it is to sand the cap all the way down to the fiberglass. They had at least 10 RV's (top of the line $$$$$$$ type) in the shop having the same thing done to them. Waxing or polishing compound may look like it is getting rid of the oxidation, but it is only temporary.

Good luck,
Keep us informed

This is becoming a common problem for Jayco. Mine did it and my dealer took some pictures, sent them to Jayco and they approved repainting and replacing all the decals under warranty. My dealer was very supportive and it was approved without having to fight with anyone. It was there over a month but it came back looking like new again. I'm a little worried about it happening again so I am considering getting a Bug Banner cover for the cap.

Well, I have sent Jayco pictures and had the dealer send pictures. Thus far Jayco has denied coverage under warranty. They also are taking about a week to respond to any contact on the website or phone calls that they deem technical.

Maybe it is a little chaotic with the change of leadership and layoffs, but it isn't looking good at this point. It is possible Jayco has soured on covering this over the years, but it is clearly failed paint work. My next stop will be consumer protection agencies, both state and local about their warranty statements.

Flat out, no car company would get away with this. No RV manufacturer should either.

My rig had the spider cracking and it was covered under warranty, they stripped the cap down, repainted and replaced the decals. Squeaky wheel gets the grease, I would not let up on your dealer of Jayco.

Jayco denied the claim, as "non-warrantable", but basically offered to help pay for it. The dealer is eating the rest of the cost, which I find disreputable on Jayco's part. I didn't buy it from this dealer, but they are still taking care of it.

I have to assume the method Jayco is using here leaves some plausible deniability and me and the dealer holding the bag for future failure.

I had significant fading but no cracking on the front cap and my TT was just over the 2 yr warranty. Brought it to the dealer and Jayco covered the cost to have it repainted. Instead of going with the stock brown I had changed it to white to match the sides in the event it ever faded again it wouldn't be as noticeable. I think it looks much better now but does show the bugs a lot more.
