Generator Noise in Bedroom

We have a 5th wheel with an Onan LP generator mounted under the bedroom, this is not a Jayco, but this forum provides much better input than other places I have tried. There is virtually no insulation or sound deadening in the generator compartment. Has anyone tried to add insulation? What did you use and how did you do it? Did it work?

Thanks

Google "Hushmat" or "Dynamat". It's acoustical sound damping material that self adheres. Easy to install and works well.

Yes, I used high quality (expensive) marine sound deadening inside the firebox. Stuff for engine rooms and such. With the bedroom AC fan on, can't hear the genset at all in the bedroom and sleep fine. We just run the ac fan in on. But we do this all the time to drown out outside noise and circulate the air. Also helps with the sudden noise of the AC kicking on without the fan already running.

I used different thickness of deadening material due to keeping the minimal clearances of the genset. I have some left over that I want to put on the inside of the exterior access door and on the exterior top of the fire box. Since it's so quiet I haven't bothered yet. But still on my list.

Mines an Onan 5500 LP. I did the sound deadening before putting the genset in.

The pics so a cross section of the deadening material and installed. But I don't have the joints taped yet in the pic. All joints are over lapped too. Ceiling first, then rear wall, then the sides. So everything is overlapped to help block noise.

Are those fire rated? If not, can't use that on the interior of the firebox.

From Dynamats website:

Dynaliner has the highest heat blocking properties available in a single layer synthetic foam. Combined with Dynamat, Dynaliner nearly doubles the total thermal resistance ability. It provides excellent insulation for the roof, firewall, floor, quarter panels, doors, and even under the hood. Dynaliner is available in 1/8”, 1/4”, and 1/2” thicknesses. Use the thickest one that your space will allow.

The Hoodliner is made from 3/4″ acoustic sound soaker foam with a reinforced, reflective aluminized skin. The aluminized skin is cleanable, oil and water resistant and provides 97% heat reflection. The Hoodliner has a high-tack pressure sensitive adhesive for easy peel and stick application.

Sounds like the hoodliner is the only one I'd attempt to use inside the firebox.

I used Soundown Sound-Stop brand sound deadening. Bought from defender.com very high quality stuff. 4 layers and rated for marine engine rooms. Unless you're on a tight budget, this stuff is amazing. I researched sound deadening for months before selecting this stuff. It's super heavy too.
