Hitch Height

Putting a new hitch in this weekend. A BandW Companion for the puck system. If you have a 2017 Ford DRW which height setting are you using or what is distance from top of pivot head to bed of truck. My camper is at dealer so first tow will be from there. I don’t want to be in dealer parking lot making adjustments if I can help it.

Thanks

You're not going to be able to set the hitch height until you you have your truck & trailer together. There are too many variables: Where is the pinbox set on the trailer? Is it the factory pinbox or an after-market? Is your truck 2wd or 4wd? What tire/wheel package are you running on your truck? Do you have an upgraded tire & wheel package on your trailer (15" to 16")?

If you can't talk the dealer into throwing in a free "adjustment", carry a good set of hand tools.

I drove 400 miles to pick up a new Durango several years ago and the Dealer wanted $300.00 to adjust the pinbox height. I was so mad (after writing them a check for over $50K that I went to Harbor Freight, bought $25.00 worth of cheap wrenches and did it myself - In their front parking lot - blocking traffic!

If somebody had similar setup it should close. I could fine tune when I get home and not at dealer. The camper is getting warranty work and was level with my previous truck.

I went from an 06F350 LB to a 2016 F350 dually and took the Reese 18K puck hitch out of 06 and into 2016 and did NOT have to mess with any adjustments.

Both trucks sat level. Even thou the dually sat a little lower.

Keep in mind the 2017 trucks sit a little higher than the earlier Fords. Good luck.

Thanks. My previous truck did not have the puck system.

. Going from a 2012 SRW to a 2017 DRW the height is slightly lower.
