Hot Water Tank Bypass

I have my first new 5th wheel . 2019 Jayco Eagle HT 26BHX. I was prepping for winterization but have a question. I was wondering about the hot water tank bypass. I have drained all of the water and blown the lines out but i do not see any access to the back of the hot water tank to check for a bypass. I have read the manual on this and see nowhere to shut it off . I was wondering if anyone has any info on this. I do not want to fill my hot water tank with antifreeze .

Thanks

You don't want to fill your hot water heater with antifreeze.

Go outside and look for the water heater exhaust. Remove the panel and you will see the back of the heater. There should be a plug there that allows you to completely drain the hot water heater.

The bypass valve is so you can pump water without it going through the water heater. It is usually somewhere near the pump in an area full of pipes and valves. I don't have that model so i cannot help find it. Mine has to T handles that pull up to drain the tank and some more valves that turn to bypass it.

Sorry I am not more help. Maybe someone who owns that model can post a picture to show which is your setup.

Your docking station will have valves with labels telling what valves need to be where for winterizing.

On our 28.5 HT, there is a panel on the rear wall of the driver’s side basement compartment as you open the basement door. On ours, if you remove that panel, there should be drains, bypass valves and your suction pump and line for winterizing.

Congratulations on your new HT and welcome!

2nOZ, are you sure the water heater bypass valves are in the basement. On our 2018 28.5 RSTS HT the water heater bypass valves are behind the lower panel in the pantry. Just thought this might be worth mentioning.

On ours the bypass valves were on the back of the water heater. I had to remove two drawers in the bunkhouse to access that area.

Locate water heater. Go inside the trailer to that location and open drawers until you can see the back of it. That's where the valves will be.

Yes, once you have the bypass valves set then you can drain the water heater from the outside.

Your hot water tank should have a access cover from the inside possibly like mine in the pantry closet. Remove the cover to expose the HWT. There is where you'll see the inlet line (top) and outlet line (bottom) line. There will be both a inlet line and outlet line valve. Close both of those valves. You'll find a line connecting the inlet and outlet lines with a valve. This is your bypass valve. Open it and your ready to put RV antifreeze in your camper.
Good luck with everything.

We have a similar floor plan and you may want to check under the bottom bunk mattress for a 1'x1' piece of plywood that lifts up to provide access.

Good luck!

Taking screws out of panels in the basement are a task option. We remove screws to learn what's behind that panel. There is no replacement for eyes on.. Cell phones are great to take phots and share what's your doing. Or before doing it. I myself want to know what's behind that basement wall.

Oops, my bad. Our dealer does our winterization so I didn’t pay attention. Took the panel off under the pantry and there it was. I always learn new things here. Thanks!
