PD52 transfer switch quit working

We have no shore power in the trl., but we have normal generator operation and power. Going to drop it off at the dealer this week, warranty I hope.
My question is it looks like the PD52 is an entry level switch, If I can upgrade to a PD52DCS transfer switch then it looks like I get surge protection also, hard mounted. For a reasonable price. Is this asking for trouble the same component doing 2 functions. The system uses Progressive Dynamics units.
