Problems with living/dining slide on NP 375

We left our camp site yesterday morning and drove a few miles before stopping for breakfast. DH did a walk-around and noticed a problem with one of the left-sided tires. There seemed to be a cut in one of the treads. We thought, "Great. The G-rated Goodyears are failing after only 4 short trips." DH slid under and found that the large living/dining slide was rubbing on the tire and had caused the cut tire. He tie-wrapped the offending portion up so that it wouldn't rub on the tire any more, and we texted our salesperson and asked if we could drop the camper off at the dealership on our way through. It is there now (about an hour away). Nothing like unloading lots of food and dirty laundry in the dealership parking lot on a Sunday afternoon. I hope they can diagnose and fix the problem quickly. We have another trip planned next month (probably the last one for the season).

We didn't notice anything wrong with the slide or the tire when we did a walk-around right before leaving camp. Anyone have any experience with this? Ours is a 2017 model.

Here is the only photo we took. You can see that arm bar or whatever it would be called directly impacting the tire.

That's what allows the gas and power connections in the slide to flex when open or closed. There is something wrong there but I can't see what in your picture.

Maybe mounted backwards? How long have you been using it. Are the tires new and larger?

We have used it 4 times, for a total of about 1400 miles. The tires are G-rated Goodyears that were original.

Once we found the damage, we obviously didn't try to extend the slide, and we haven't heard from the dealer yet about what they think, but it sure looks like a failure, doesn't it? Funny that the slide went in slick as a whistle just before we left camp, with no problem, no noise, nothing. If it hadn't been for the tire issue, we wouldn't have noticed it while on the road.

I'm sure it was just coincidence, but before leaving for this most recent trip, I spotted a piece of rubber on top of the slide topper on this same slide when DH was retracting it and told him to stop. He climbed up there and found a long piece of black rubber seal. We thought a seal had come loose on the slide, but the entire seal was out and just lying on top. I kept thinking it was lucky that it didn't jam the slide on the way back in.

We actually stopped off at the dealer on the way to our camping spot, and they took a look at it. They told us that the rubber seal was just debris, or an "extra" that they left there during manufacturing, which didn't give us a warm-and-fuzzy feeling, but they assured us that the slide was in good order and wouldn't leak. We got set up at the camp site with no issues, tore down with no issues, and then this happened on the way home.

It looks like the mounting failed at either the weld or the self tapping screws let go. That small U shaped bracket at the end of the arms should be attached to the frame rails. You were lucky you had G rated tires there or I am certain a blowout would have occurred with an E rating. That arm as mentioned is a conduit by which the electrical for both 12v and 120V travel as you extend the slide in and out.

It should be an easy fix, but you need a new tire also from Jayco as that was a direct result of the failed part. Speaking of part that is going to be your biggest delay as they usually take 1-2 weeks to drop ship.

Yes, we said the same thing about the tires once we knew what the cause was. At first, we thought it was a tire failure in and of itself, but now we realize that the tires probably saved us a lot more misery.

I know first-hand about how long drop shipments can take, because we are still waiting on our G-rated spare from Jayco. I'm hoping the dealer makes the diagnosis and gets on the horn with Jayco ASAP. We got a late start on the season this year and definitely want to get one last trip in before cold weather and winterizing, and we usually get our first frost in October around here. Thanks for your input. I see you have basically this same model, just with a different nameplate.
