Roof ladder sealing material

Hello everyone

Just wondering if anyone knows what material they used at the factory when they install the Roof Ladder? To me it's looks like a cork type of material as like old school type of gassett. Mine is desolving and I would like to replace the material with one won't retain water. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Should be butyl tape that will last a long time. It will start expanding out with time and I just scrape the excess off with a plastic putty knife. You can also run a bead of sealant around the edge if you want.

RipinSC.: I will give it a try. What do you recommend for the type of black color caulk that I need to redo where black trim meets the edge of rig?

Marko, I am camping now and can’t remember the name. Someone else can chime in. You get it at any RV store. I use clear, it is an rv sealant that sticks well.

They use that at the Factory Service Center. Both are sticky so don't cut the tip too big.

Yep, that is what I use. It is extremely sticky stuff. I strongly recommend taping off anywhere you do not want it. The tape will give you good clean professional lines. I also use super soapy water to smooth it out.

How long does it take to dry to touch? Or what did you experience the cure / dry time to be for you?
