Surge Protectors

Sorry if this is a repeat question. Are surge protectors a must? I have tried to read up on surge protectors and keep getting more and more confused. I know next to nothing about electrical systems. Alot of people say you need one and lots of people say you don't need them. There seems to be a huge price difference between models. I have a 377 RLBH. Any advice is appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
An EMS is much better than a surge protector. Surge Guard and Progressive are the popular ones.
There is plenty of threads on this forum in regards to EMS. Just so a search for EMS and you will find several days of material to read.

Surge protectors are good, an Electrical Management System is much better. They also protect against a drop or spike in voltage.

Yes a must IMHO. https://www.progressiveindustries.net/ems-pt50x.
Good for people that know nothing and next to nothing.

Good for people that know something or can get someone that knows something.

I prefer the hardwired unit.

And welcome.

Welcome to the forum.

Type the word 'surge' in the search panel and you'll discover this is has been discussed often on this site.

(BTW, in my opinion, they are a must.)

progressive industries sells the hardwired one. Just like insurance you don't need it until you needed it... I know mine has already saved me once and I thought it would never be needed but the reverse polarity kept it from turning on my trailer at a CG... probably saved something... worth the money... IMO.. it only takes once to pay for itself.. a AC is a bit more...

good luck with your decision.. but get the EMS so it won't power your stuff till it is safe

Ask yourself how much it would cost to replace all your onboard electronics: furnace, hot water heater, fridge, AC boards. Then add on the tv, stereo, converter/inverter. Weather portable or hardwired consider an EMS unit cheap insurance.
