TV 12v (lighter) plug

1996 Eagle 265. In the TV area is a wall plate with coax hookup, a small switch with an indicator light and the 12v power socket. Boondocking this week and decided to try putting my automotive 12v usb charger to work using the 12 socket in the TT. No power from the socket and the indicator light didn't come on with the switch in any position. Any suggestions on where to begin the hunt for why?

Note: Jayco does not have wiring diagrams for my trailer. I've checked multiple times.

Thanks

The switch is for the tv antenna booster, but the 12 volt outlet should be hot. Are there any other 12 volt items that aren't working?

Check the 12 volt fuses in the breaker panel for a blown fuse, if you haven't already. You can't necessarily go by looks alone on those.

Jayco would've purged the schematics for a '96 a long time ago. Our TT was 4 years old, and I could only get a few diagrams. The rest were already purged out.

15 year old socket may have failed. Wiring is a simple positive and negative wire to the back of the socket. Pull it out after checking fuse and see if any power to those wires with multimeter. Also might be bent inside and not making contact or corrosion blocking connection. If nothing works you may have to pull the converter and check scotch locks and connections behind it. Don't forget to make sure the ground wires are tight and the frame ground are good.

I've seen some 12vdc sockets that have an integral fuse positioned under the spring-loaded positive pin. The socket has to be disassembled to get to the fuse, which entails unscrewing the threaded-together parts.

Also, I've seen 12vdc receptacles that have overheated due to excess current draw, and that heat had damaged the spring, causing it to lose it's springiness/strength.
