TV Rear tire blowout question

I posted this under fifth wheels as opposed to tow vehicles only because I'd like to focus on towing fifth wheels and not travel trailers.

Has anyone ever experienced a rear tire blow out on a SRW tow vehicle while towing a fifth wheel down the highway? How did the tow vehicle handle?

Thanks
Dave

Dave: I have never had a blowout on my rear TV tire, however I have had 2 steer axle tires blowout driving a 80,000 lb. semi. One thing I was taught years ago, with ANY flat, stay off of the brakes, release the throttle and let your vehicle slow on its own. Braking will only compound your control problems. That advice served me well when I needed it at 70 mph. in traffic. Hope this may help you some anyway....safe travels!!

Thanks mikensue. I've read about that tactic. Good to hear it from someones actual experience. Maybe the lack of replies on the subject is an indication that rear a blow out on a SRW rarely happens. Hope I'm not the first to find out.
