Water leak 27.5 Eagle HT

Just in case anyone else finds water laying in the area below the kitchen sink, you might want to look at the back of the water heater.

On the second day of our trip north we found water under the sink area. Naturally thought it must be the drain pipe or seal around the sink. But quickly found out that was not the case. I then took off the wood cover to the heater and found water along the base of the wall seperating the sink and water heater. While I was searching a stream of water came down from the level above but I didn't know what exactly was there. So I took off the tall panel under the sink area, and now could see the back of the water heater. Voila, I saw where the water was coming from. It was a loose fresh water connection to the heater. I double checked all of the connections and tightened the loose water connection and no more leaks.

This I'm hoping was where the water came from in the storage compartment that I noticed a couple of days ago. But not sure if it came from rain outside so I have to wait and see after the next rain storm, tomorrow.

At least I was able to take care of one problem, on to the next?

I don't know if this helps but I will try to post a pic but they always come out upside down or sideways no matter what I do.

Anyway the panel that is below the sink on the 27.5 has one wood strip at the bottom attached to the floor by 2 wood screws. The panel itself is attached by staples and can be pride off by a screw driver. Reattaching is simple by a couple of short wood screws. Take the panel and the strip of wood out and you should see the back side of the water heater. If it is leaking there you will see it immediately.

The first picture shows the water on the floor that is below the water heater and the partition wall that seperates the under sink area, at least on the 27.5 anyway.

My stuff is in different locations on my 26.5 BHS, but after reading this, I'll spend a little time next outing opening panels and checking these connections.

Have you tightened the connections to the kitchen faucet yet? Common problem. Might also need to change the washers in those fittings as some of them are bad as well.

When looking for a leak I will lay paper towels or tissue paper along floor area where the leak is suspect. It will 'pucker' when it gets wet.

We just had a similar situation on our 28.5 rsts Eagle HT model our lay out has an island separate from water heater but i will look into securing the water lines under our sink area .

I had a leak under the sink when the sink was full of water. Turn out the P-trap fitting was loose. Also tightened evey fitting. Most we loose. 2016 27.5 RLTS new.

My water line feeds to the kitchen sink started leaking after a few days of use, and the p-trap loosened up after a few months of use. 2017 29.5 BHDS

I noticed the hot water connection under kitchen sink was leaking again this weekend. I had to tighten both the hot and cold last year when we took delivery of our rig and it's been fine for over a year. I snugged up the hot connection (again) and that seemed to fix it. You really have to keep an eye on these fitting i'm finding out.

Would Teflon tap be any good?

No. The fittings have a cone washer inside that seals it. The threads do not.

Some have reported that the washers are distorted and need replacing.

Thanks for all the responses to the water leak problem, and the other leaks that I had not even thought of. Now I will put that on my check list when we go out camping again. Would not have thought of the fittings under the cabinet at the sink in kitchen but i'm thinking that the bathroom gets checked as well.
I'm just a little baffled by Jayco putting up this wall separating the sink area and the hot water heater, with no way to get into it without taking the wall down. At least they should have made a hatch, door or some way to get into there to get access to fix the leaks that seem to be inevitable. Just a suggestion, maybe they could hire someone who has the strength to tighten those fittings better.

While the threads on the kitchen sink plumbing don't seal them off, adding a little Teflon tape does help. When the washers do start leaking, the tape will help eliminate any leaking by helping the threads to seal off. It is a pain in the bottom trying to get the tape on though.
