You guys that went from 15" wheel to 16"

Hey folks

My 5er is going in for some routine service. And I need new tires. I tow a little nose high and was contemplating a wheel swap to 16" to bring the rig up a little. You folks that have went to 16" wheels, what tire size did you go with? I have a '16 HT 27.5RLTS. Leafs are at the bottom hole, so there's nothing there. Also, I have a little over 5" between the 15" wheels/tires now, how much gap is necessary when increasing wheel size?

Thanks for the help.

How much room do you have between the top of the tire and the bottom of your camper? That is often the much more important number.

I typed up a post but it appears to be gone now. So to make a long story short you shouldn't go above 235/80/16, axle spacing is only 33 inches and that size is 30.7 diameter, my xchocks still fit, barely but totally usable, and the next size up is 31.8 inches and there is no way they would fit in that space. My oem tire size on our 2016 27.5 rlts was 28.1 inches so when i switched I gained 1.35 inches of height at the axles and a very substantial gain in weight rating.

Previous poster makes an excellent point it was moot for me as I also added a 2 inch subframe though it may matter to you if you are only changing tire size.

I did the exact same tire swap with the same exact results on my 28.5. I also lifted my rig with the Lippert Correct Track system so top height wasnt an issue. Took many mods to get it correct. Wish my F350 wasnt so high up!

Just curious Jim, I also have a 2018 F350 if measuring from the ground to the top of your bed rail - what is that measurement? measure at the tail light.

I am about 59 1/2"

I'm on a gravel drive and measure at 56-1/2". However I put a lowering shackle kit on my truck. It was a 2 year process to get my 5er level. Tows like a dream at 70 on the Highway now.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm still going to go 16" wheels & Michelin XPS ribs in 245/75R16. Should still have about 3 inches between tires.
I'm finding in my search that tire dimensions aren't exactly consistent across mfg & tire size calculators.

I do not know that measurement. I'll check when I get home later, but my feeling is that there was 6-8 inches from the tire to the bottom of the coach.
Thanks for pointing this out. I never would have considered this otherwise.
