2020 27' Jay Feather Axle problems

We recently took our 2020 27' Jayco JayFeather to Valdosta. We got to Dayton Ohio and when a car passed us they were waving at our rear tires. Pulled over and found the front axle tire on the driver side was worn down to radials. Had it changed by Good Sam and then went to a tire store and had a replacement put on. Called my dealer back home and he said I should have the axles checked. The trailer has Dexter axles, it is only 4 months old an has maybe 2500 miles. I managed to get it to a dealer in Valdosta GA and they are contacting Dexter with the help of my dealer.

My neighbour who has the same trailer and picked it up in May (5 months old). He took it to our dealer for a side out issue and the dealer knowing my situation checked his axles and found the rear axle was in need of replacement.

Has anyone out there had problems with Dexter axles? I find it hard to believe that a 4 month old trailer with limited mileage has this problem

Thanks

Sorry to hear. Welcome to the RV Industry 2020. I hope you get things worked out and in a timely matter. I had to reach out to Canada after several failed attempts with my Jayco.

Both axles of our 2019 Whitehawk are being replaced. I will say that Dexter has been great to deal with. We have the 4400# axles which are fairly new to the RV industry I guess. Dexter is working the kinks out.

Dexter 4400 axles have been used by other manufactures since at least 2014. So not so new IMO. Must have a bad batch out there or wrong install at factory.
I had at least 30k miles on our without issues before the TT was traded.

Our 2019 Jay Feather 27RL also had a failed axle 5 months after we bought it. The wheel fell off as we pulled into the repair shop parking lot. Dexter was great working with the shop manager. They created a new axle and shipped it free. The shop also noted that the other axle had a blue bearing, indicating excessive heat. That wheel did not fall off. The shop also repacked the other bearing. I paid the shop's labor bill and await repayment from Dexter. I also need a new Jayco hub cover. There was a recall on certain 2019 Jaycos with defective Dexter axles. Jayco claimed that our specific trailer was not part of the recall....I suggested that maybe it should be.

Old thread, I know.

How long did it take to get the axle? I realize that covid-19 has caused supply problems for virtually every industry but my dealer is still waiting for an axle for my trailer. It has been three or more months for a warranty replacement and I'm disappointed with Dexter. I sent them messages and e-mailed yesterday.

Patience get tested to the point of ridicules', Covid-19 excuses are the Norm now.
Warranty items can take a long time, no profit in them.

Yes but I've always heard people sing the Praises of Dexter axle and I've never had a Dexter axle until now and I'm unimpressed.

Hi Larry, It took about 3 weeks for Dexter to create a new axle and ship it. The shop installed the new axle in a couple of days. I had to pay the shop. Then, when Dexter paid for the labor, I was reimbursed by the shop. You might contact Jayco to get your claim number. Dexter seemed to need that to proceed. Good luck.

What model Jay Feather do you have? I have a 2021 Jay Feather 22RK on order that is supposed to be 27'10" long. Will have dealer check the axles before I pick it up.

Our JF is the 2019 27RL, overall length is around 31 feet. We paid the repair shop to repack the other axle bearings

I had mine replaced in Georgia where iI store it for the winter in the fall 2019. I left it there for 4 months. Not sure how long it took them to get replacements axles. My neighbour has the same trailer and had his replaced at our local dealer. Not sure how long it took but he was happy with the turn around. Covid may be part of it . Good luck Larry
