AC unit issues

Hello, I have an '06 26BHS and I think the AC went TU on me. It was working but cycling quite a bit for the first 20 minutes then it would run normal. Now, when I turn the AC on I get a loud buzzing from the compressor and she shuts down. I suspect the compressor is toast. Is it better to just replace the whole shebang or fix the original unit? Thanks!

Could be the start capacitor a lot cheaper than a new unit.

X2 on the capacitor. Check the voltage and be sure to use the proper cords.

My AC will short cycle a few times unless I start it by using it in heat pump mode. I suspect that the reversing valve is flaky. Probably cheaper to replace the unit than to replace the reversing valve.

Yeah, you're right. No heat pump mode on that one.

So if it doesn't have the capacitor I guess it's the compressor itself...

Hello, I have 2017 Greyhawk 29MV with the new small black style thermostat and I found the thermostat would short cycle the AC then sometimes turn on the heat pump in the summer. After further troubleshooting from Jayco showed the thermostat was toast. Very easy to see if thermostat was problem. can't remember color codes but you just have 3 wires shorted together to test AC. With Lower cover off I saw the color codes plus thermostat might be marked. 24V wire with Compressor with fan (high). But if under warranty make sure jayco directs you through troubleshooting.

Thx! I'll keep that in mind. It was working great other than the symptoms I noted above so I'm hoping its something easy.

Did it for some reason run on a smaller extension cord in the past, which brigs the voltage down and current up. Also when there's back pressure on the High-side, they won't start either. Let the Fan run on high for an hour and let it set for a day and try again. If you have an Amp clamp meter you can test the motor Amps.

Trailer is plunged into a 30AMP service. I will try the fan thing on Thursday when I get back to the camper. It did work a few times before and I worked well. The second time I used it I heard a bell of a pop and there was a faint cloud of smoke in the camper with an wierd odor like refrigernst oil almost. There was no residue on anything the next morning. I ran it a couple more times after that and she went TU on me. I don't imagine this thing sitting over three years helped anything either...

You could be correct. The buzzing could be a bad contactor or the compressor pulling locked rotor amps. Then the compressor motor gets too hot and shuts off on internal overloads. Amp clamp on the compressor wire would tell you what you need to know.
