Air Conditioning shroud

Hi Guys, First Post... I have a used/new to me, 2016 Jayco Jayflight 32 BHSW, SLX. I want to change my white AC shroud from white to black. Anyone know which one it is and or where I can get a black one? Thanks..

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Our 2015 JayFlight looks like yours with a mix of black and white covers. Like yours, ours has a white shroud on our AC. I prefer it that way because it reflects more light so would be cooler when in direct sun to make it a bit easier for the AC.

Why paint a thing that’s designed for cooling the worst color that absorbs heat? Seems like a form before function situation.

If you Google "black coleman A/C shroud", you'll get a bunch of places to get one. Prices are all over the place.

Thanks for all the comments... I have thought about painting it. It might be easier. As far as black is concerned. If changing it to black was a "heat" issue, then why does Jayco have all black shrouds on their Eagle fifth wheels or Eagle travel trailers for the last couple of years?

Flat black or medium?

It looks like a Coleman Mach III. The reason ? Simply for looks. They don't need no stinking reason. I'm sitting here right now looking around and I see white roof/ black ac and every color combo. Black on black, etc. They may ask you to leave if it's black on yellow! LOL

Mine have 4 threaded bolts with big stainless washers on top holding it in place.

Because Jayco could care less if your AC works properly and efficiently. Look at the threads about how terribly they install the ducts and block the return vents with spray foam. They care if it looks pretty, not if it works well. Form over function runs rampant in the automotive and RV business. Just because someone makes something look cool or automates some manual function doesn’t mean they had the long term end result in mind. It’s just like when everyone wanted the new cool dark colored garage doors when they came out. Guess how many we ended up replacing over the years as they soaked up so much heat they buckled and faded. Common sense sometimes takes a backseat to what’s “cool” at the moment. That’s just Merica’

It probably won't say Coleman on the rear, like your original, but is suppose to be a direct replacement for it.
I've seen some online that do have the Coleman name on it, but they are more expensive for some reason.
I believe the ones you see more of now are a second design, and may be made for them, by someone else.

I agree with the above idea, to just paint it with a plastic compatible paint. It would be MUCH cheaper. (A flat black, or hot rod black would pretty much match what a new one is).

I agree with those who say no way on black. No way would I CHOOSE a black part ... on ANY part of my MH. But I live in TX, stuff will literally cook in our heat, so even seemingly little improvements make a big difference. Sure, I think it looks better, but ... no, not a good idea IMO.

I also agree with those who say "paint it". No way I would spend the money on something like that when there's paint out there that's perfectly adequate and functional.

In fact, now that I've seen this thread and given it a little thought, I'm considering painting my black ones white!

^^^^This. AC efficiency would take way higher precedent for me than black or white color.

Lol, maybe we need a thread where people can swap AC covers and vent covers!

Guys I live in North Eastern Ontario. It gets Hot, but not like Texas and only for about 3 months (Max) It snows for a solid 4 months out of the year. The other 2 months, its just melting the snow, with a gradual warming. The Fall is just a gradual cooling, until October. November it starts all over again. My RV is stored in doors from Oct 1st until 2nd week in May. I am not worried about the black. Thanks..

Ya, I wouldn't worry about it either.

But I'd still just paint it. Maybe Plastidip? I don't know how well that stuff holds up, but at least it's flexible, so it should resist chipping off?

I looked a while back because I was thinking about trading mine out for white, and remember the prices being quite unreasonable for a piece of plastic.

Maybe Screwby is right, maybe we need to set up a "swap" page. But shipping would probably be a problem; I can't imagine anyone in my immediate vicinity wanting my black ones...

I hope you aren’t taking this super personally. Am I busting you a little for wanting a black AC shroud to replace a perfectly good white one that no one can even see from less than 50’ away for no other reason than you think it looks better? Maybe a little bit, but it’s your AC and your camper and you can paint it pink with jeweled bedazzles if it so pleases you. I was more pointing to the fact that Jayco and other manufacturers even put black ones on in the first place. Next thing you know they’ll be making black roofs because it looks cool.
Nothing personal brother, but I don’t sugar coat common sense, it’s all good

Personally, I'd paint it too if I was so inclined. But if you're looking for a replacement, try Icon Direct. They sell stuff like that.

Maybe have both. This way you can change them out based on what weather you'll be camping in. Personally, I'd stay with the white one as most times that you're using a/c is because it's hot outside. Black is just going to draw the heat to the a/c unit, making it work harder. JMHO.
