Andersen WDH upgrade kit triangle plate

Has anyone upgraded the standard fixed Andersen triangle plate to the one that swivels up and down instead of staying in a fixed level position. Does it make it easier to hitch up?

The older model stayed flat and level and is hard to put back on the bottom of the hitch. The new model connects more like a door hinge.

Cost for the kit is $100 (plus shipping?)
The kit including a new ball and the plate is available direct from the factory.

For those who do have Andersen hitches I recommend getting a replacement bottom hitch pin with a handle at a farm store. I can get a picture if anyone wants to see one.

I believe that 01Tundra may have upgraded his. Hopefully he will chime in.

Does anderson have the upgrade kit listed online now? I need to pick one up but just haven't got around to it.

"IMPORTANT: This triangle plate only works with WD Hitch models released after October 2016."

It does look like the updated triangle plate is now available on Andersen's web site for ~$68:

Andersen Triangle Plate

When I heard about these I was interested in upgrading. Unfortunately they only work with hitches manufactured after October 2016 and mine is a late 2014/early 2015 model.

I did however upgrade to the 2.5" shank with the 4" drop/rise when I picked up the new F-250 as I didn't want to use a reducer sleeve.

Besides possible ease of assembly I wonder are there any real benefits?

Night and day difference in hooking up. Doesn't matter what angle you back up in, simply twist the ball by hand and have the plate aligned.

I bought my Andersen in late 2017 and the triangle plate looks just like the one in the link above. It swivels up and down on the pin but not left to right. The tapered rubber bushing keeps the hitch ball tightly in place when parked. So, if you park at an angle, you must hitch up at an angle or unhook one chain temporarily. Andersen even warns against using a hammer to straighten out the triangle plate . Tundra, am I missing something? How does your plate twist by hand?

Yes on my updated hitch the triangle plate could be rotated by hand when not hitched to the trailer, but that was when I first installed it and I haven't had the need to rotate since, so maybe the ball got "set" into the friction material and won't rotate by hand anymore?

It's still night and day easier than hitching with the original black plate that was a PITA to get on and off......

My neighbor has an Andersen with a “collar” that’s sort of between the two holes for the pin. That must be the old version. Looks like it would be a pain. On mine, I do have to raise the tongue jack quite a bit to get slack in the chains to connect, but that’s SOP.

I just got off the phone with Andersen. I ordered the upgrade kit for $100, no tax or shipping!! Due here next week.

Per Andersen, the new Triangle pate and a new ball assembly which I think are these parts:

3355 - WD Anti-Sway assembly ONLY with 2-5/16" ball (includes ball housing, ball & brake material)
And
3356 - WD Triangle plate (plate only-no hardware)

The unit can now be aligned with the car by hand and no longer requires you to back up exactly the same as when you parked or go through a re-alignment procedure. Trying to either was annoying and time wasting.

Andersen customer service is GREAT!
