battery

so I brought my battery back to the dealer told them it wouldn't hold a charge they gave me a new one with no problems. maybe im missing something here but isn't the battery supposed to be charging while the trailer is plugged into a 30 amp circuit ? the new battery went low so I took it out put it on the charger and it will not charge up to 100 pct? I have power from the 30 amp circuit all the 110 stuff in the trailer works fine.

Yes the battery is supposed to charge when plugged in to shore power. If it’s not, take the camper back to the dealer and not just the battery.

What TT do you have? What is the TT's charge controller Mfr/model?

You need to get a voltage meter and take a look at the battery voltage. While on shore depending on the type of battery charge controller the voltage should be between 13.2 and 14.1. Some of the less expensive battery charge controllers voltage does not go up to 13VDC.

- Get a Battery Voltage Meter (something like the one below)
- Write down your findings.
- With the Shore power cable connected what is the battery voltage? (13.2 to 14.1)
- Pull the Shore power cable, let battery rest for 2 hours, take another voltage reading (should still be around 12.9 to13VDC)
- Take a second voltage reading 24 hours later. Should be between 12.6 to 12.8.

- After the 24hour rest plug in the Shore power cable and take another voltage reading. Should be in the high 13's low 14's as it will be charging.

I also recommend getting a Digital Voltage Display that you can plug into your 12VDC accessory outlet in the TT, just to keep tabs on the battery without having to go to the battery with a meter.

I have a 2018 jay flight slx 284bhs
the manual is useless so I have no idea were the charger on the tt is or what model. I bought a voltage meter when I first got the new battery it read 12.60 and when plugged in to shore power it slowly dropped seems the tt charger should be accessible ??

Check all your DC fuses in the fuse panel. Check your 110VAC breaker that supplies power to the battery charge controller (trigger it a few times to reset). There are 2 fuses (usually at the top of the panel) that protect the TT electronics should the battery be accidently installed backwards (+-). Check all the 12VDC fuses with the volt meter, as looks can be deceiving.

Check the MAIN 30Amp fuse between the batteries and the TT. It is located by the battery box.

Do you have lights inside the TT when shore power is removed?

Usually the charge controller is mounted to the back-side of the 110VAC fuse panel. Mine is under the fridge.

I may be totally off base, but if the battery disconnect switch is turned so power is "disconnected" from battery to trailer, then I am guessing it can't charge the batteries when plugged in, right? if so, maybe check the disconnect switch and be sure it is allowing power to flow from camper to batteries????
and I confess I know practically nothing, so jump in if this is wrong thinking???

I've got a battery question on my 2018 - 154bh. My electric outlets do not work unless I'm plugged into shore power. How can I make my batteries power my electric outlets? Thanks.

plugs and some appliances have to have that power to work, so you have to be plugged into shore power, a generator, or something that can produce that.

Figured I'd piggyback of this thread instead of adding a new one. I purchased a used 2016 264BHS. No matter how long I leave it plugged into shore power or drive with it connected, the reading off my multi-meter only goes to 12.29 - 12.36v.

Is it time to buy a new battery? I thought a saw a chart somewhere that lists your percentage of battery remaining based on the voltage reading. Please share if you have.
