If you're referring to a day/night, or night pleated shades, the following link has string replacement instructions once you purchase a new spool of string.
http://www.unitedshade.com/images/sh...structions.pdf
There are also a few JOF threads on the subject as well.

If it's the type they normally use you have to restring the blind.

I've restrung a few in my day and it's easy. The first time you do it is a learning experience. Plenty of videos on how to do it. Link:

Before you tackle it get the proper cord and watch some YT videos. It's not hard but the string is run all thru the blind.

Bumping an old thread to ask a question.
How are the shades mounted? It seems like I will have to remove the valance and side pieces to get to any mounts. I've reached up underneath and can't feel any screws or covers that would slide away.

Mine are screwed straight up into the top valance. I've tried restringing one before and got frustrated.

I'll take another look. I was thinking it was another "build them from the inside so repair is hard" moment. Thank you.

Same as mine...., I've re-strung all of mine in the last 2 years.
I removed the top valance from the L-brackets (2-screws) with the blinds still attached and 'sandwiched snug'. Working from a large surface (bed, table, etc.), I then removed the blind from the valance keeping the blind sandwiched snug the entire time, except the area to remove the two blind screws.
With the blind remaining 'sandwiched snug' (easier to re-string) I commenced with the re-stringing per directions described in prior Post #2.

Thank you. I have those "side valances " as well. I was hoping to avoid removing it from the wall. Time to order string.

Mine don't have the 'side valances', less to deal with in my case.
The blind assembly has to be free of the valance inorder to remove the top/bottom rails of the blind(s) thus providing routing access to the strings.

IF I remember correctly the string is .5 mm. I have heard of some using large fishing twine. Once I found some nylon twine at Walmart in the sewing department.

Just finished 2 in our 2 year old Jayco
Watch a Youtube video, really easy to do yourself. Buy a 2mm dia. roll of cord off Amazon or fabric shop "cheap".
Took me about an hour to do 2 blinds including taking the blinds down, re-threading the blinds with the new cord and re-hanging them again.
Kind of sucked because our RV Jayco is only 2 years old and the cords frayed bad.
