Ceiling Leak

I have an '04 Jayco 29FBS......

The short history in long ownership is that this unit has been nothing but problems.

Cabinets have broken...within 1st year-non packed.

AC has never cooled the unit unless it was 80 degrees.

My most recent, leak over the front master bed out of the light fixture.

MY QUESTION: Do I need to tear this ceiling out to make sure there is no mold growing between the roof and ceiling. The insulation was wet, I do not know the extent. I caulked the roof since it was 10 years old last spring, I suspect I missed a spot.

Any advice is welcome.

Anytime you have water and darkness on material it will grow mold. If there is no way to dry it out you will likely have issues. How bad did it leak? Did it bubble the ceiling?

So if I tear this ceiling out....wear to I find the supplies to replace it. Belleville is close to St Louis. I have Googled and called a few places and the response I get is "good luck!"

I am a skilled carpenter so my guess is I am renovating my trailer?

nbhybrid.....i can feel the weight of the water. Like I said I cannot determine how far it went. We have had 4 inch downpours and no water since.

At the time when this happened I was running the AC. Any chance it could be from the AC being poorly drained (condensation)?

it could be the A/C. I have never attempted a ceiling replacement but I am sure there are lots who have. I assume it is just luan stapled to wood trusses.

Have you checked the AC gasket because they won't last 10 years.

Poll question Crabby - do most people just trade in RV after about 5 years?

Thanks for coming up with this post it's one of the most important posts on this forum. That gasket breakdown can cost $1,000.00's if not found in time. The water can go any witch way to ceiling lights, speakers and even follow the wires down the wall. You might never find this one till it's to late.
