Draining anti freeze

Hello to all,

Now that the weather in Alberta is slowly changing for the better I am going to drain the anti freeze. I wanted to know if I have to change my filter for the pump under the sink every year has it looks like anti freeze is in it? It’s obvious I would but was just curious has if this is normal for anti freeze to go in the filter pump or any other options
Thanks

It would seem that you are not using or don't have a bypass to the filter. When you are putting antifreeze into the line where the filter is located, you should have a bypass available and/or remove the filter. I'm not sure what your set up is to offer any other information. I am also not knowledgeable enough to tell you whether your filter needs to be replaced if subjected to antifreeze, as to what harm it may or does cause. Generally, you don't want antifreeze in the filter. I personally would replace it.

Normally, when systems are winterized, the filter cartridge is removed before the anti-freeze is put in, and the empty canister is left. Then, in Spring, all the anti-freeze is flushed out, then the canister is dropped, and the filter put back in.

If your filter element was left in, and anti-freeze was sent through it, I would replace the filter element.
