dual batteries on Hummingbird

Has anyone seen a retrofit kit that could fit two 6v batteries on the tongue of a Hummingbird? It seems kind of tight, and I suppose it depends on the size of the retrofit batteries. Just wondering if someone else had done the mod.

I haven't got around to it yet, but I imagine I can fabricate some sort of battery mounting tray when I get around to it. I already have some ideas.

As new as they are i doubt there's any type of commercially available kit.

Thanks for the refernce

Thanks for the reference to the other thread. I hadn't considered the weight rating. For now I think I'll just go with a better single battery and see if I need more after we've used the trailer a season or two.

I am not sure if you are new to TT's and batteries, but here are a few tips.

- Check your batteries water level regularly.
- BEFORE YOU TAKE YOUR BATTERY CABLES OFF, to change your battery, mark them. So many members have accidently reversed them when hooking up to the new battery. Will be one headache less.
- The battery connections need to be tight and clean. Also make sure that the negative cable connection to the TT's frame is tight and clean. Dirty/loose connections alter the charge/discharge status and can cause over/under charging.
- Watching battery voltage is another priority. The 12VDC battery is fully charged at 12.6VDC. You do not want your batteries voltage to drop below 12.0VDC. If the voltage drops below the 12.0VDC mark (50% rule) it shortens the battery life. If the battery is fully discharged to 0 volts, there is a good chance that you will never fully recover from it and it may not hold a charge any longer.

When your battery hits 12.0VDC you need to stop using your 12VDC items.

If you do not have a Digital Voltage Display, I would recommend getting one that will help you keep an eye on the battery voltage level.

Good Luck

I put (2) GC2 Interstate Extreme in a white battery box. I trimmed the front corners and it fits just fine plus the batteries doe touch the frame. I mounted a xantrex 1000 watt inverter with 2 gage cables through the front diamond-plate with a marine Scanstrut watertight port. I also have a 2 Farrad capacitor wired into the inverter. Inside the camper I have the monitors and the remote switch for the inverter. I don't kow how to put on pictures but I have them of the modification. Wiring was run inside with the campers wires along the curdside wall (under the "shower"). I mounted the controls on the same wall as Jayco did for the lights and awning controls. In inverter is mounted in the trunk, up high on the bottom of the bed's frame.
