I think you can just purchase a longer hose or maybe have a local propane supplier make one up for you.

Maybe instead of leaving the old regulator in place you can simply remove it an reinstall the screws to plug the holes?

Yeah I wasn't all that worried about extending the hose and fittings. I'll have to check and see how it's mounted again. I think it might be easier to just leave it than to try and take it off. If I remember correctly there's a significant amount of caulking around it.
