Electrical Battery Issue SOLVED!!

SOLVED!!!

2006 Jayco Jayflight 27BH.

Purchased in 2017 from small dealer. It didn't have a battery connected. I should have told him I wanted a battery, but decided to do it my self.

About a year ago, I purchased battery and hooked it up...but quickly had issues...there were sparks and the wires got hot. The electrical when plugged into house or park work fine, so I just forgot about.

But we have plans for dry camping this summer and decided to take another look at the issue.

I have DSA-500 meter, and did continuity test to make sure the wire I thought was ground, is ground, and it does infact beep. I hold one probe against trailer, then touch other probe to "ground" wire. But wait...if I touch the other wire, it beeps too. The "positive" wire traces back to a metal box, and is tied into a bunch of white wires.

In the picture attached, you will see two white wires at the top, which comes from the battery into the electrical box. One is secured to a screw going in the frame, the other goes into the bunch of white wires.

Also, if I do the continuity test between the two wires at the battery, it also beeps.

I think at one time the power load controller may have been replaced.

The one currently installed is a ILC-3045.

Any ideas? Someone else seems to have made a mess.

Your + cable is grounded somewhere. You'll have to start at the battery lead and literally start tracing it back and checking for continuity with ground as you go.

Check your grounds (neutral and ground to chassis) as they are corrode or poorly done at the factory. Clean them and use dielectric grease.

You need a battery to activate the emergency breakaway switch. If nothing more wire it straight the battery and leave the rest unhooked until you get the problem resolved.

Duh....I found a black wire, positive, tucked under the frame. The two white both go to the ground...

Connected it correctly, and I have power in the TT.

Thanks!!

Awesome. Perseverance pays off once again!

How many nights will you be boondocking for? Do you also have a generator?

Enjoy your camper!

We are going to FloydFest in VA this July, 4 nights.

Yes I have a generator, that works off propane. its a SportsMan 4000 that I got from Home Depot on Black Friday for $250. It helped me get through an ice storm, it should be good enough to power the AC through the night. I guess that something I need to test.

I have my battery charging right now, 2a, slow charge.
