Folding table leg won't close, need help

My table has a leg that you fold up in order to put it on the seat edges to make the table into a bunk.

The latch has two dog ears that were supposed to snap into place in the up position or the folded position. Needless to say the little tabs are bent out of shape and I cannot fold the table leg.

Anyone replaced that latch with something else. The leg is a metal tube with height adjustment buttons that I also already replaced as they broke the first time we traveled.

I have not found the same latch and don't really want it anyway as it is junk.

I have that type also. The spring is too strong! I used channel locks to grab the pins and pull them downward simultaneously. Be careful as it is a pinching machine.

I did quite a bit of research and called my local dealer and 2 RV parts houses for a replacement leg and hinge. NO LUCK.

So I started looking at it and decided to take apart the leg/hinge. I first sawed off the two bent dog ears that are held in place by the hinge. The rest of the spring holder popped out when I drilled out the hinge pin.

Next I purchased a 3/8 by 2 inch Clevis pin for the hinge function. For the latch I got 1/4 X 1 1/2 inch wire lock pin for the part that holds the leg up or down.

The hard part was depressing spring and inserting the lock pin. I could have used a second Clevis pin instead. If you ever want to do it I can give you a step by step on how, it was a pain to do!

Attached are pictures of the end product. Actually works much better than brand new.
