Fridge question

Just came back from opening up. 2018 jayco 32bhds. I plug in power started fridge. Everthing Was good fridge was getting cold., when I went to hook up my battery the fridge jump over to propane . when i tried to switch the fridge planet back to auto it locked me out. I had to unplug fridge and disconnect battery then reconnect then plug fridge back in then start fridge on auto for it to run on electric and not propane. Has anyone experienced this?

when fridge is on auto and shore power is disconnected fridge goes to propane. But you also can set to manual electric or propane. In auto mode Electric is default.

Yes. But camper was plugged in to electric and didn't loose any power . it only jumped to propane when I hooked up battery and had to unplug fridge and battery then reconnect then turn fridge black to auto to be normal again. Hope I am exposing this ok. Thanks

"It (frig) only jumped to propane when I hooked up battery".

Me, I would never connect or disconnect a battery with anything in the trailer turned on (especially DC components and/or the converter). Connecting or disconnecting the battery while under load (i.e., with something on) is not a particularly good idea.

FWIW, the frig always needs DC (12v) power to run the control circuitry---doesn't matter whether the heating element is being heated/powered with propane, 120vdc, or 12vdc (on a 3-way frig)---the control circuitry still needs 12vdc to operate.
