Hard Water and filling tanks...

First time with an RV on a well that has really hard water. We have a water softener in the house, but it the outside faucets by pass the water softener. Just looking for some ideas for when I don't have a full hook up site and need to fill the tanks.

I've seen portable softeners or having a plumber hook one of the faucets through the softener. Thought I'd ask if anyone had other ideas?

I don't personally care about hard water in my RV. But when I want to wash the car spot free I pull the hose into the laundry room and connect it to the faucet there. It is connected to softened water.

If you don't have a laundry room sink that has hose style thread then you might connect to the clothes washer water supply. Buy a splitter if you are going to use it very often.

You can get them in the garden section of just about any store. I carry one in the RV in case I run into a water supply that does not have enough spigots and I have to share with a neighbor. It has happened more than once.

sboisvert74,

Welcome to JOF

No new easy ideas. I have on a couple occasions filled a 6 gallon jug with softened water and filled my TT tank (couple of trips of course).

I have a 'by-pass' valve at home to direct softened water to an outside spigot, and a portable FlowPur softener I keep with the TT.

I use a Pentek WS-10 water softening filter to fill the fresh water tank with soft water. IMO, if you don't full-time, it's a lot cheaper than a RV water softening system.
