hatchlift for walk around bed

I have a 195 RB with a large queen mattress on the walk around bed. It was to heavy to keep lifting so I went to hatchlift.com and purchased a set of large air lifters for the bed. I had to add 2 x 4 supports in order to fasten them but they worked real good, for a while. The problem is that Jayco installed 2 skinny hinges with 1/4 " screws into the plywood and they gave way. there is a support under the plywood and a larger screw would have penetrated it. I went to home depot and got 3 fence hinges with long tangs and then modified them with more hole and used nice fat 3/4 inch screws. sweet now I can access underneath without getting another hernia.
Happy Trails!!!!

Had the same issue on our 195RB and did the same basic fix you describe. Sounds like there is some consistency to the campers when they come from the factory after all.....

PLease post a picture or two of the installed hinges. We are upgrading to a memory foam mattress that weights more so it could effect the hinges. No problem so far but don't wan't to be in a park when they come apart!

Currious how you figured out which to buy. I closed off my underbunk and cut the bed plywood in half. Now it seems the lifts don't have the power to hold it up. Funny, I take off the bedding and it stays up just fine. So I must be close in the power of the lift cylinder.

Hatchback hinge

I hope this works I added a pic you will see that I drilled holes in the top part of the tang because if you install screws too close they will run into the prace on the bottom edge of plywood
good luck! we are hitting the road tomorrow from Fla , destination Mohican state park in Ohio with stops along the way. our first real trip in our 195 RB.
