Hengs Fan Question

I have a new 174bh and surprising to me. Not a single vent fan. Not even a crummy one in the bathroom. Looking to get a hengs fan. But was wondering if I should get two. One for bathroom and one for main area. Seems excessive to have two. But thought I’d ask those of you who might have the insight to a place for me to land. Thanks!

On my 195 rb I added hengs vortex and love it in the bath. Simple to do, easy to fish a wire over from the bath light.

Mine has enough air movement to pull heat or smells that escape the kitchen fan up and out. A second one would have the advantage of allowing you to push air down kind of like a ceiling fan if you really needed it. The weight is nominal and if you have power nearby then it is only a matter of cost and your time. A vent cover is also a real plus. Lets us leave ours open year round.

My recommendation would be to do both. That's what we did in our 195RB and it was nice having them in both locations. We did the single-speed in the bathroom and the multi-speed w/reverse in the main vent.

My unit came with a fantastic fan in the bathroom. I added a Hengs fan in the bedroom. Creates quite the breeze, lol. It's nice to have a fan in the bathroom but make sure it's off when you flush the toilet because during the brief period that the toilet is open it'll pull up the sewer gas quickly. 2 fans are better than 1 as the Hengs moves quite a bit of air. Plus they're easy to install.

I have a smaller trailer and it came with no fan in the bathroom. I installed a Hengs fan, the 3 speed model. Like RogerR, super easy to fish a wire from the bathroom light to power it. Hardest part of the install was fitting both the wife and I in the bathroom, wished I had a third hand. Fan has plenty of power and I'm happy with a single fan in the bathroom.

Leaning toward a single speed hengs in the bathroom and the vortex II in the living space.

Fan

Our 2018 174bh came without any fans. Put the Heng single speed in the bathroom vent. It will suck the bathroom door closed! That's all we need.

Question Do you have to leave the light on?

If you install a fan in the 174BH by using the wire from the ceiling light, do you have to leave the light on for the fan to work?

Thanks,
Nancy

No, the light does not need to be on in order for the fan to work because you are tapping into the circuit ahead of the on/off switch for the light. I don't know about the 174BH but our 195RB had a couple of lights that in addition to the individual on/off switch for each light were also wired into a switch located on the wall by the door. In that case the switch by the door needed to be ON for the fan to work because it was tapped in AFTER that switch but before the switch on the light.

Depends on where you made the connection. If it is before the switch you don't have to have the light on. If it is after (between the switch and light) then yes the light has to be on.

On my 194BH the light in the bath near the vent is independent of any switch. The lights in the main area near the central vent is switched by the door.

So for the bath, you could tap the wire before the light and no effect on the light.
On the central fan the light would have to be on because the power is switched on at the door switch for all the main area lights except the one over the bed.
